Baseball vs. # 17 Maryland - Seahawk Nation 08 - 03-05-2015 03:25 PM

# 17 Maryland Terrapins
Record: 7-2
RPI: 16
Results: W Western Ky.; W Canisius; W ODU; W @ So. Alabama; L UCF; W Arkansas; 2/3 App St.

Series Schedule: Saturday Doubleheader (Noon); Sunday (1 PM)

The Seahawks (7-3, # 23 RPI) welcome a ranked Maryland squad to Brooks Field for 3 games this weekend. Snow in the north and expected cold weather on Friday in Wilmington have pushed the series to a Saturday start, opening with a doubleheader at noon.

The Terrapins, new to the Big 10 in 2015, have been mostly dominant thus far in the campaign, outscoring opponents 66-35 in their 9 games. All of their games this season have either been on the road or neutral fields.

Maryland is led offensively by Jr. IF/OF LaMonte Wade (.486, 11 RBI, 5 SB) and So. C/IF Nick Cieri (.333, 1 HR, 11 RBI).

Out of the pen, Sr. righty Bobby Ruse (2-0, 4.00 ERA, 10 K's, 9.0 IP) has been the arm that has been depended on the most. In addition, R-Fr. righty Ryan Selmer hasn't allowed a run in 5 innings. Given our struggles against lefties, expect to see a lot of work from Jr. lefties Alex Robinson and Robert Galligan who also haven't allowed runs in 7 combined appearances.

Projected Rotation:

Saturday (Game 1): So. RHP Mike Shawaryn (3-0, 1.80 ERA, 25 K's, 2 BB's, 20.0 IP)
Saturday (Game 2): So. LHP Tayler Stiles (0-2, 8.03 ERA, 16 K's, 3 BB's, 12.1 IP)
Sunday (Game 3): Fr. RHP Brian Shaffer (1-0, 6.00 ERA, 9 K's, 1 BB, 12.0 IP)

Unless otherwise noted, I assume the same rotation as the first three weekends. Monroe-Foster-Phillips.

As Ernie Banks would say.....it's a beautiful day for baseball, let's play 2!

(Actually it's about 50 degrees. But at least it's sunny!)

Go Diamond Hawks!

RIP Ernie Banks.

First of two games is underway.

Maryland leadoff batter grounds out to 2B.

RE: Baseball vs. # 17 Maryland - B_Hawk06 - 03-07-2015 12:11 PM

McDowell makes a nice move to his left at SS to grab a shot on the left side of the bag and send it over to Corey Dick at 1B for the 2nd out.

Top of the first. Two up, two down for Maryland so far.

RE: Baseball vs. # 17 Maryland - B_Hawk06 - 03-07-2015 12:13 PM

McDowell with another grab up the middle and sends it to Dick at first for the third out.

Great first inning for Nick Monroe on the mound!

Go Seahawks!

Shields lays down a sac bunt to move Linkous to third, but is safe on an error by the Maryland pitcher!

Runners on the corners with no outs for Casey Golden!!!

RE: Baseball vs. # 17 Maryland - B_Hawk06 - 03-07-2015 12:19 PM

Shields gets picked off at first.

My goodness...

Baseball vs. # 17 Maryland - Seahawk Nation 08 - 03-07-2015 12:21 PM

Hawks on the board. Nice start!

RE: Baseball vs. # 17 Maryland - B_Hawk06 - 03-07-2015 12:21 PM

Golden sent a deep sac fly to the warning track in CF that brings Linkous home.

Two outs.

1-0 Seahawks.

Here comes Stupienski...

RE: Baseball vs. # 17 Maryland - B_Hawk06 - 03-07-2015 12:22 PM

Stupes grounds out to SS. That's the end of the 1st.

Seahawks take a 1-0 lead into the top of the 2nd.

Heart of the Maryland order here in the 2nd for the turtles.

RE: Baseball vs. # 17 Maryland - B_Hawk06 - 03-07-2015 12:27 PM

Monroe gets a called strike for his first K of the game!

Great battle there. Way to come back and get him after being behind 3-1!

RE: Baseball vs. # 17 Maryland - B_Hawk06 - 03-07-2015 12:29 PM

Shields makes a catch at the warning track in deep RF to end the inning for Maryland!

Bottom of the second and Monroe still has Maryland searching for their first hit.

RE: Baseball vs. # 17 Maryland - B_Hawk06 - 03-07-2015 12:34 PM

Seahawks went down in order in the bottom of the second.

Monroe coming back out to face the bottom of the turtles' order.

Baseball vs. # 17 Maryland - Seahawk Nation 08 - 03-07-2015 12:35 PM

Both pitchers very sharp so far. Shawaryn has 25 Ks and only 2 walks on the season so no surprise there.
