Eh, that's much ado about nothing. The Tennessee coaches are babies if they are really offended by that. Further, no one believes Stallings is really going to "kill" his player, somewhat are we upset about?

I think what the coach ment by "I'm going to kill you" is that the coach is going to run the kid so much after practice that the player can't walk. "Kill you" in this instance is clearly coach speak for an insane amount of extra conditioning.

"I'm gonna kill you" can also be construed as a threat. Now, certainly I don't think Stallings has any intention of committing a homicide against one of his players, and in the heat of raised tempers "tongue-and-cheek" things like this can be said. However, there's a time and place for coaches berating their players, and right after a nationally televised game with cameras and microphones following you up court is neither the proper time or place. If you were that kid's parents watching that game from home and heard that, what would your initial reaction be?

I like this guy. "I'll kill you" is WAY out of line, but his disgust at the player's actions are justified. Speaking as a former lowly 8th grade basketball coach of several years, one thing I always made an imperative for my teams was that they won with class and lost with class. If they jawed with players during the game, I pulled 'em out. If they said something from the bench, they weren't getting back in the game. And both of those involved further repercussions in practice, if not dismissal from the team unless they got with our program. The same thing goes for behavior in the classroom.
That kid got a free ride to college because of his ability to play basketball, and he's representing the program and the university that gave him that opportunity. Behavior like that can become a cancer on a team if it's not stopped. Represent yourself well, represent your family well, and represent your teammates and your school well.

It seems some people don't have any common sense. All the Vandy coach had to do is tell the Tenn. coach "okay, thanks, I'll handle it later". And when later came he should have talked to the player and stressed that he would not accept bad sportsmanship and for the next game he was sitting on the bench. That will hurt the player more than getting a tongue lashing.
What the coach did was wrong and what the player did to Ps him off wasn't that bad. I didn't see his mouth move so I reckon all he did was clap after the game. I'm not stupid I know what his intentions were but they weren't that bad.

Have you ever coached? This isn't a little child we're talking about. It's pretty apparent that this guy's attitude and unsportsmanlike behavior has surfaced several times before and that the message from the coach didn't get across those first few times. "Handling it later" is for guys who aren't chronic violators. Maybe it takes a bit of a tongue lashing in front of the opposing players he taunted for the message to finally get across to this guy. If this doesn't do the trick either, suspensions for violations of team rules (if that hasn't already been tried) are in order.
The coach apologized for his actions, but there's no indication that the player did for his. And btw, when a player's attitude toward his opponents is bad enough to where the opposing coach even has to say something about it after the game during the handshake, that's bad.

If you watch the entire video the Vandy coach can be heard saying to the kid "we have talked about this 100 times." A college athlete shouldn't have to be told or talked to more than once about something like this. I am sure the coach is regretful for using kill but every athlete and coach knows that the meaning of that word from a coach means that there will be extra conditioning at practice. I know players say things like; was coach trying to kill us today at practice or coach is going to kill us at practice tomorrow. The frustration of having to tell an adult over and over about something that is a cornerstone to a program go the best of the Vandy coach. I have less of a problem with it than what Floyd did on Thursday.
