1-on-1 w/ Kadin Shedrick

He looks like a very athletic post player for the most part. Would be an exciting addition to our program if he chose us over P5 conference schools that have given him an offer like Ole Miss and Nebraska. Do y'all think him being close to UNCW gives us an edge on recruiting him?

RE: Recruit Updates - Gary Miller - 06-25-2018 06:57 PM

It's hard to say if location will give us an edge or not. Some kids prefer to be close to home so their family can see the games and a better chance at playing time early on, some prefer the extra amenities P5 schools can offer. It's great we have him on campus to hoop at the beach during the summer though. That's one of the best pitches we have at the moment.

Also, I would like to add that the new court looks flossy, hope we can christen it correctly on November 9th!

Gary, do you have a sense of how much Joe Wolf's presence influences the thinking of the bigger recruits? Or at least influences the thinking of the adults they listen to?

RE: Recruit Updates - Gary Miller - 06-26-2018 04:52 PM

I know Coach Wolf has a lot of connections in the NBA from being a player and coach, which is one of the main reasons we've been able to keep Cacok around. Even if Devontae doesn't get picked in next years NBA Draft, he'll get a fair shake from an NBA team in summer league through Wolf. I actually ran across an old NBA Draft combine video where Wolf was running the drills for the bigs so he knows the ins and outs of the whole process. With that being said, I speculate he tells these recruits something along the lines of "give me time to work with you and I can get you a shot." Now how much that influences the recruits, I can't really say. I do think he is a huge asset to our staff though.

Thanks for the insight. I suspect that has the added benefit of actually being true. My sense is that knowledgeable people advising the bigs being recruited would know that. Everything else being equal, it has to be an advantage.

According to social media, CB and Esleeck are in Atlanta recruiting. I’ll update if I see some more specific details. Wings Up!

I wouldn't think so. Probably the Nike Peach Jam and Under Armour Invitational.

His shot doesn't look half bad either. Got to make them open layups though!

I agree. Toews/Cacok pick and roll could be tough to stop next year. If opponents bring help, Toews seems capable of making the right decision to get it to the open man. Don’t really know the level of competition he’s playing against, but it’s promising for sure.

RE: Recruit Updates - UNCWin - 07-18-2018 04:11 PM

UNCW has offered junior Isaiah cozart, 6'7" Small Forward from Richmond, KY. Plays for Central Madison High School as well as his AAU team, Louisville Magic. Has a gigantic wingspan of 7'2" and shattered the state record for blocked shots in a season, and averaged 11.6 PPG & 10.3 RPG his sophomore year. He's been offered by many mid majors such as St. Bonaventure, ETSU, and William & Mary. Could be a great pick up, as defense is definitely a key improvement that needs to be made for the Seahawks, but I kind of want to see how he develops.

An intriguing prospect for sure. Looks like he only needs 6 more blocks to break the All-Time Kentucky State Record. At 6'7 with that kind of wingspan, you have to imagine he's not done growing. The type of prospect that Joe Wolf should be heavily involved in the recruitment of.

Waiting to see how he develops can make you last to the party. A kid like him has to get in early, otherwise the P5s get involved and it's over

RE: Recruit Updates - getmhawks - 07-19-2018 01:43 PM

My exact thoughts. Look at how Keatts locked up Evan Cole (GT) early. He "developed" and had high majors all over him after decommitting upon Keatts departure.

The kid from Holly Springs got an offer from Xavier and he is part of the David West AAU program not looking good

Not to mention Georgia Tech, Georgetown, Arizona State, and Wake Forest! At least we know our coaching staff has good taste in players!
