LOL it's becoming predictable, so why wait on the announcement?

I would guess official business that needs to be sorted first.

Probably right, but if that's the case, why tweet it! If you signed a recruit and the official business didn't shake out for whatever reason, would it still be a "great day to be a Seahawk"? lol I'm happy top be a fan anyday, but you get my point.

We have had the least amount of recruiting coverage this year since the Chuck Carree days.

It is an attempt to create hype and generate excitement for those that follow the program. It also allows the kid to respectfully close the process with other coaches, share the news with high school/travel coaches, friends, relatives, etc.

RE: Recruit Updates - Gary Miller - 04-23-2018 01:29 PM

It's tough to say, because Parker Braun is the only pending offer that we know for sure about. With him just being offered by a P5 powerhouse in Arizona, I would find it hard to believe it is him. I'm going to say it's Ty Gadsden.

Arizona is Arizona, but hard to accept that offer right now. Who knows, though. Money talks.

Speaking of Millers, the only information that I could find regarding Gadsden was when Archie visited to see his Juco team play and the assumption was that Miller was there to see him.

The newest Seahawk is a Valpo transfer. Here's some info on Marten Linssen

Although I like the size for next year, i'd like to see the JUCO PG make a quick commitment for immediate help.

Also, seems like we now have three "projects" as big men.

Good to see Jackie Manuel involved in the recruiting. Up until now mostly been hearing Esleeck and C.B. I think the fact that he has experience playing in a Professional League in Germany and he'll have a year to develop under Wolfe before playing is really intriguing.

On a side note, I notice that Gadsden is a JUCO Freshman. I know there are certain eligibility requirements he has to meet if he were to come over for next year. I don't know exactly what they are, if anyone does or understands his circumstances better, feel free to reply.

Below is another good article on Linssen. Has a couple of quotes from him talking about adjusting to the college game.

I really like this signing. By all accounts, he's a hard-working big, with consistent effort and athleticism. It sounds like he hasn't put it all together yet, and he himself acknowledges that he's transitioning to a slightly different game (and culture). A year without on the court pressure should be big for him on both fronts. I haven't seen him play, but he seems to have a solid floor, and their is some potential there that the staff can work with...with the progress we all saw from Bryan this year, there is reason to be optimistic.

Now, we'll go find a Juco guard that help our backcourt depth next year.

I also like the balance we have with scholarships spread across each class. Linssen is essentially joining this year's freshman class. Elmore, Gary and Estime as sophs, Cylla, Taylor and Fornes as juniors, and we'll be graduating Cacok, O'Connell, and Kalina.

Less than Excited. that's 2 transfers who averaged a total of 5 points combined. I hope Wolf can work miracles.

Adjusting from the European game to the American game, especially as a big man, is difficult. On top of that, few big men make an impact immediately. So at least when it comes to Linssen, that shouldn't be a major worry.

Even Devontae Cacok only averaged 3.3 points per game his freshman year.

i think we caught lightening in a bottle with CaCock. In the 20 years i've been associated with UNCW i've never seen anyone "flip the switch" like that.
Maybe sitting out another year and adjusting will do him well. I guess we will see

Yes, but just about every big man fails to make a major impact as freshmen. That's fairly normal. So just because Cacok was special doesn't mean other big men who start slow can't be.

O'Connell is pretty much a complete product, so I only expect him to be a depth guy for a year. But I'm fairly excited about Linssen. Lot's of raw ability there from what I can see.

Well, if i had to be more excited about 1, i'm with you there.

RE: Recruit Updates - Gary Miller - 04-24-2018 08:34 AM

O'Connell will provide depth. I really liked a point Alex made on BnB this week in regards to watching his film. He clearly has a skill set that can make him a good rotation player at the mid major level. It's pretty clear that the system Byington runs at Ga. Southern didn't fit his game. If you watch his highlight videos and look at his stats it doesn't make any sense that he was only playing 12 minutes per game. I see that number nearly doubling in our system next year, hopefully his ppg and rpg do the same.

I like the Linssen pick up a lot, because it gives us a true big after Cacok leaves. Right now we don't have one. By some of the stuff I've read on him, it sounded like the Valpo coach regretted not red-shirting him this year. I think him sitting on the bench learning the american game, getting coached by Wolfe, and getting in the weight room with Ben Flemming and his staff is going to be huge for him. He's a big dude, but his body could use some toning as they say. I think he's a low risk, high reward type project.
