A solid offer sheet makes it sweeter when they commit to us.

I agree. He's definitely getting some good looks.

If we can't compete against Pacific and St. Bonaventure in the recruiting game, we need to pack it up and go to the SoCon. With no gimmick like a press or slow down defensive lock down, we have to recruit well to succeed. This is why we hired McGrath and all his UNC connections. Recruiting.

I don't want it to sound like I think we can't compete with St. Bonaventure when it comes to recruiting. Just the more the suitors there are, the more we have to worry about. We got him on campus, so we're obviously one of his top schools.

A lot of times it's about opportunity and relationship with the staff. UNCW has a lot to offer and has had a good history of getting to the NCAA. They certainly are in the mix for the recruits. And, both have a really good chance of being players here if they decide to come. Hope they make the right decision and pick the Hawks. If not, somebody good will come in at some point.

Cal Poly has had 4 people recently leave the program. Only one is a SG.

You get three official visits, right? Is Cal Poly an official visit, and was last week an official visit also? I would assume once he get's those three on the books, a decision would soon follow.

RE: Recruit Updates - Rueben Kincaid - 04-14-2018 08:06 AM

A recruits can take 5 official visits

3 officials.

RE: Recruit Updates - Rueben Kincaid - 04-14-2018 04:37 PM

How many official visits am I allowed to take?

Per NCAA rules, you are allowed to take no more than five official visits to Division I and/or Division II schools and you can only take one visit, per school. There is no limit on the number of official visits you can take at the Division III and NAIA levels, but you can only take one visit per school.

Per NCAA guidebook although it is very common knowledge

You can take unofficial visits. But it's on your parent's dime.

Parker Braun has been offered by Ole Miss.

Have to admit i'm a bit concerned by the lack of any commitments as I hear about commitments elsewhere.

I understand the concern, but keep in mind UNCW has only been recruiting these kids for a few weeks. McGrath admitted he wasn't able to recruit very much in-season. It's understandable that these kids are taking their times with making a decision.

Why was he and/or his assistants not able to recruit much? Does seem really odd that we are just being connected within the last month or so to our top targets.

He stated in a podcast that with the team needing so much work this year, he felt as if he couldn't miss a day of practice and risk the team taking a step back. Also, the two targets we have are in Colorado and Kansas, so I would imagine they weren't on the radar at the time either. Robinson and Braun have both picked up a lot of interest from teams as of late. In the case of Channel Banks, this hurt us because he pretty much already had two teams in mind when we came into the picture.

RE: Recruit Updates - 82hawk - 04-18-2018 05:21 AM

I didn't hear the podcast, but if true we weren't recruiting that is a huge mistake. There is nothing more important than recruiting in sports, and nothing else takes precedence. That's a setup for future failure. Also concerned we're recruiting so far from NC. A lot of kids these days have grown up with their parents attending everything they do, and many prefer to stay close enough for that to continue, unless you are top level looking to the NBA.

No bueno.

RE: Recruit Updates - Seahawk2010 - 04-18-2018 07:00 AM

I seem to recall that we enjoyed many years of success recruiting mostly out of state players.

There are a lot of quality basketball programs not including UNC, Duke, State, and Wake Forest in North Carolina. So there is a lot of competition in recruiting NC players. IMO it can be beneficial to recruit in areas that don’t have a ton of mid major programs. Like Minnesota for Braun and Colorado for Robinson.

Coach should know this better than Anyone. Roy has always done well there, and developing players.
