I don't understand why that well would dry. He'll still be recruiting the same circuits, right? RE: Recruit Updates - bricksnivy - 10-13-2017 09:58 AM Gotcha. I like what I've seen from Esleeck on the recruiting front. RE: Recruit Updates - billthebighawksfan - 10-13-2017 02:58 PM I don't think that it's quite like that guys, but it may not hurt. The good kid out of Charlotte that just verballed was originally a guy that Esleek was looking at while at Mercer for example. He's known as a good recruiter and if you're good, you're good. RE: Recruit Updates - Gary Miller - 12-19-2017 03:16 PM Wheatmore HS 6’6 G/F Gavin Rains took an unofficial visit on Saturday. Not much on him but here is what I could find. Say what you want about C.B., but I do like the kids he's recruiting. Long and Athletic for their position, and can stretch the floor (Jeff Gary 2017, Jay Estime 2017) (Jaylen Simms 2018, Kai Toews 2018) Hopefully we can land him, as we could definitely use the depth with size. WINGS UP Any indication if we've offered? Counting Toews and Sims, we still have 4 scholarships open. Simeon Kirkland would be a nice understudy for Cacok!!! No insight, but I assume we'll approach a few transfers as well, juco or grad transfers that can play right away. We still need more depth inside, and Richmond's dismisal and Talley graduating, we'll need a PG to pair with Toews. WINGS UP No indication whether or not we offered. I don't see any indication that we have, but has to mean something to have a kid in for an unofficial. Phenom Hoops has him as having no D-1 offers as of last spring, but D1 potential. As for another PG, I see Jeff Gary as being capable of being the starter next year, however his jumpshot and height could allow him to play off the ball as well. His length on defense has been the main reason for his increased playing time, even prior to the Richmond dismissal. So I don't see them bringing in another PG. Also, I don't see any indication that Simeon Kirkland is on the new staffs radar. He was offered by previous staff. He does seem very talented though. Jack Hemphill was a top guy for the new staff and he recently committed/signed to Boston University. I think the focus going forward is going to be size, with Bryan graduating, also wouldn't be surprised if Cacok tested professional waters. RE: Recruit Updates - jumpinmullet - 12-19-2017 04:40 PM If a player comes in on a visit they are all most always going to be offered-why waste the time? Cacok will have to really go crazy from here on out to think about going pro -if you are talking NBA. I think he has a legit shot at the NBA but he will have to show that he can make a jump shot from at least 18ft to get a real look. I think he can get there and if he does that would make a absolute beast in the CAA next season. No question about it-he should stay. I also agree with Bill on recruiting players, some guys can and some can't. Looks like these guys can and I think they will. Its 80% about the players you bring in and the other 50% -who knows! However, I do agree with you 100 percent on that he is capable of being that kind of talent with further development. I don't think it's likely he tests the pro waters, I just think its something as fans we should keep in mind. It is not unfathomable that if he ends this year with 20+ dbl/dbls, a conference player of the year, and top 20 in the NCAA in several categories that he does. I mean what else would he have left to accomplish on the collegiate level... He can further develop in the G League while also getting a paycheck. WINGS UP Need an experienced big to start with Cacok. A Grad Transfer or Juco is a must, would prefer Grad Transfer since Jucos are hit or miss. I really wish we had Mwaldo Sallah, the Grad transfer from Mount St Marys that originally comitted to us. WINGS UP Depending on how good Elmore is when he comes back, we could be set at the F/C with those two and Jean Cylla becoming eligible next year. Although, I’ve never been one to believe the listed heights and weights, considering Nick Powell apparently grew 2 inches last year, so Cylla may be smaller than he’s listed. One more big is probably necessary, I just don’t want anyone transferring due to lack of PT. Losing Sallah hurt us a lot, and looking at his minutes for Kansas State I really wish he had stayed here, because that’s two years of a high quality front court with lots of playing time for him. But, given the choice between us and a P5 school with all their resources, and the opportunity to play the likes of Kansas and Texas and Baylor, I’m not shocked. Did we pick up Kalina after we lost Sallah? Is that the reason he’s on this roster? RE: Recruit Updates - SEA33HAWK - 12-20-2017 01:55 PM Powell does seem to be a little taller. Not sure about 2". RE: Recruit Updates - Gary Miller - 01-12-2018 11:42 AM 6'7 '19 Gavin Rains (Wheatmore HS, NC) had a monster game in win over Central Davidson. 35 points 16 rebounds 4 blocks 3 steals Same kid we had in on an Unofficial Visit a few weeks back. RE: Recruit Updates - SEA33HAWK - 01-12-2018 03:31 PM So I take it that right now we still have two hard commits. Jaylen Sims (6'6" SG) and Kai Teows (6'2" PG). Have I missed any other commits or serious recruits? They were recruited by the previous staff. Also, I think we now have 3 open scholarships for next year with Richmond's dismissal. Will be interesting to see how they use those.
