RE: Recruit Updates - Ms. Cottonball - 02-17-2015 06:57 PM

I'm sure that a lot know about the transfers but I am quite sure that even more have seen what coach has done with this team this season. Either way it is going to be tough getting folks into Trask - just like the old days.

While that all sounds great, the reason we are having trouble scheduling home games in Trask is simply due to the fact that WE DON'T PAY.

At the very least, Coach K should have the option to spend $100K to bring in one or two opponents. That would leave 75% of the $400K plus that he brings in from money games to supplement the budget.

RE: Recruit Updates - SEA33HAWK - 02-17-2015 07:13 PM

Plenty of mid-majors don't pay. They can still get good teams to visit.

RE: Recruit Updates - SEA33HAWK - 02-17-2015 07:19 PM

UVA played at JMU this year. And SoCal played at the Drexel pill box.

UVA's series goes back to 1982. This year, Tony Bennett scheduled JMU, Norfolk, VCU and Richmond.....All sell-outs.

I wish we had a cooperative high major in NC that would be willing to do the same.

No doubt, but it is typically a result of a long standing relationship between coaches, AD or University Presidents.

Our well is empty. Hopefully Coach K can begin rebuilding that part of our Program also.........and NO, Ms. Cottonball is not taking a jab at AD Bass. The Liberty game and our contractual obligation originated with Ms. Merhtens.

I'm so glad she's gone and we have Bass!!

Pass the vino.

RE: Recruit Updates - SEA33HAWK - 02-17-2015 08:04 PM

Wainwright couldn't get Wake here, even though they were supposed to return here for like a 25 year reunion of opening up Trask.

Sounds like Ms. Cottonball, after getting the scaly-finned Heisman from The Mullet - hasn't quite given up on a fish-by-another-name. She may have to drink her way past her inhibitions....but I believe she just may have it in her.

RE: Recruit Updates - jumpinmullet - 02-17-2015 09:22 PM

Call Clemson.I am sure Brad would love to kick the crap out of UNCW.

RE: Recruit Updates - jumpinmullet - 02-17-2015 09:26 PM

We shall see if they all are as golden as you think.I think not not, they just seem to find a way to screw up for some reason.I do realize that Keatts has a magic touch here right now and maybe he gets over with this deal.

You'd be right if all we're talking about are generalities here. But Haywood and Ingram will be players for sure. Why? Because they've done so already:

http://portcitydaily.com/2014/07/07/sports-first-recruiting-class-for-new-uncw-hoops-coach-comes-into-focus/

Quote:Haywood, a 6-4, 185-pound scorer, averaged 16.6 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.6 assists for the Dolphins in 2013-14, shooting 50.9 percent overall and 41.3 percent from three-point range. He earned Second-Team All-Atlantic Sun honors after reaching double figures 23 times in 26 appearances last season.
Quote:Ingram, a 6-0, 170-pound guard, played two seasons at Charlotte after graduating from Chapel Hill School. He made 10 starts in 28 games for the 49ers and recorded 10 double-figure games, including a 20-point effort against Georgia Tech on Dec. 29, 2013. Ingram averaged 8.1 points and ranked third in Conference USA in 3-point percentage with a 44.1 clip.

Past performance is a good indicator of future success. And that's "just the way it works."

You say "they find a way to screw up" when talking about transfers in general. Yet know nothing about the players coming in. So essentially you're trying to take a general principle and apply it to players we've already been told are lighting it up in practice, much like they did at times at their previous stops. Keatts has given me little reason to doubt him. You, meanwhile, have been on the wrong side of the bandwagon from the start.

I'd love to get a 2 for one deal with Clemson and beat them twice, once in their place and once in ours.

UNC had no problems playing at Davidson and UNC-G this year. But the closest they've come to us is Myrtle Beach.

The mighty Gardner Webb Bulldogs, 16-11, 8-6 in Big South, beat Clemson on a neutral court. HPU lost at Clemson by 3.

It would be a big win no doubt, but to say, "it ain't gonna happen" is inaccurate. That is exactly the type of game we could win. Clemson is always going to struggle offensively, unless they're playing NCSU.

RE: Recruit Updates - jumpinmullet - 02-18-2015 01:09 PM

I somehow think a Clemson team coached by Brownell would be very prepared for UNCW but hey you never know.It is Clemson and not a top ACC team.I heard Brad say he would love to play UNCW in Trask a few years back.
I would think a game vs High point is more what UNCW should be trying to get. They are pretty good and I think would at least split with UNCW home and home.Better record, higher RPI,tougher out of conference schedule but they do play in the Big South.

So you think they weren't prepared by Brownell for GWU?

Scheduling HPU doesn't do anything for UNCW. It is year one for Keatts, year 6 for Scott Cherry and they're less than 40 spots better than us in RPI.

RE: Recruit Updates - 82hawk - 02-18-2015 02:38 PM

It would be a great series. Trask would be packed, and the old wounds with Brownell would be healed. I hope we attempt to make it happen.

How about....Louisville and Clemson coming to Trask...It could happen!

RE: Recruit Updates - bricksnivy - 02-18-2015 02:48 PM

When is the last time a big name came to Trask? I recall Princeton in '98 drew a big crowd. This was the year they finished 26-2 if I'm correct.

Clemson and Louisville would obviously be much bigger draws.

RE: Recruit Updates - Seahawkhoops - 02-18-2015 02:56 PM

December 15, 2009 Wake came to Trask

also butler came to trask in 99 before they had their tourney success. We won that one. Colorado came in the moss trask debut and we won that one too. i remember Washington came in 99 too. Beat them as well. Mississippi st and Umass came in 96. umass game was on espn2 which was th3 first time we were ever on national tv. We best miss st and loss to umass by 1. This was when umass was a very big deal. in our early years Charlotte came in 78, 81 and 95, Cincinnati in 89, Boston College in 87, LSU in 83, and Florida in 78.

That Princeton game was one of my first games. They stole that one from us calling that 3 good after the buzzard
