Elmore with 26 points and 14 rebounds in his fifth game. So far he has scored at least 26 points in his first 5 games of the season

Wow. Just wow. Can you imagine two more prolific scorers added to this roster next year?!

RE: Recruit Updates - 82hawk - 12-04-2015 07:28 AM

Think about this. We only lose Ponder and Sherwood next year.

RE: Recruit Updates - 82hawk - 12-04-2015 08:22 AM

Elmore with 20 points and 24 rebounds in his 6th. game as Dixon moves to 5-1 on the season.

Both those guys have been solid contributors and so far this year Ponder has been an incredible improvement. I think since being relieved of the pressure that comes with being the primary PG we've seen his scoring improve dramatically. Doesn't mean he hasn't improved at the point because he certainly has, but he's just plain better at the two.

They sure have. But, our team still looks great with just those two leaving. We have a former 3 star transfer on the bench(Richmond) and Freshman, Fornes, who just put up FIFTY waiting to fill the hole that Ponder leaves.

And Elmore comes along just as Sherwood leaves. Not bad.

Exactly why I and I believe all of the rest of you love Coach Keatts!

Matt Elmore's Dixon squad will be playing @ North Brunswick HS on January 19th at 4:30. Nice opportunity for us locals to see Elmore in action.

RE: Recruit Updates - Proff - 12-26-2015 02:17 PM

I know its not concerning the men's team but there is a girl in Jacksonville that's a 6-3 freshmen averaging around 20 pts a game.

I'm going to try and catch Elmore at an Onslow county tournament Monday afternoon. The local press is really pumping up the fact he is a UNCW recruit.

What do we have to do to get her in a Seahawk uniform?

Maybe tell the coach about her-good chance she no clue.

RE: Recruit Updates - 82hawk - 12-28-2015 07:19 PM

Got a chance to watch Matt Elmore tonight and spoke to his father. He tells me Matt has already dropped 15 lbs., now at 225lbs.

The team they were playing wasn't very talented or big, so it was hard to get a real take on his complete game. However, here were my impressions.

1. Outstanding 3 point shooter. He hit his first three shots, all from 3 pt. range. He hit off the dribble, off a pass, and in the face of a defender. Good elevation and just a smooth release.

2. He is not a back to the basket player at all(at least not on this team). He generally stayed outside the 3 point lane and rotated around the court looking to get the open 3. Drove to the basket from there several times and has a nice spin move to take an elbow jumper.

3. Had at least 5 dunks. An alley oop, and a few baseline moves. Also, quick follow ups on missed shots.

4. He has very good size and is athletic, but isn't a physical rebounder or defender. Didn't see him really box out hard or use his body to bang on defense or rebounds. That may be because there really wasn't anyone on the court his size.

5. Very unselfish player, and you can tell the coach does not go out of his way to feature him on the team. He probably scored 25, but it came as a natural part of the offense with everyone on the team involved. He could probably score at will if the coach let him, and he easily could have had 40.

6. VERY good hands. Didn't see him bobble a pass or make bad passes. When he got a had on a rebound, he controlled the ball up high. Puts the ball in the basket if he's close.

7. Very much under control. Blocks shots without fouling, and doesn't try to swat them, choosing to control the block with a possession. Knows when he is beat and finds a way to challenge without fouling.

Reminds me a lot of Sherwood, but with more size, a stronger build and a greater variety of ways to score. Better 3 point shooter with a nice midrange jumper as well. Very athletic and should replace Sherwood with ease, even as a Freshman.

My only concern is how aggressive and physical can he be at the college level. If he can develop some physicality and aggressiveness under Keatts, he could be awesome. Stat stuffer who does it quietly, and you look up and realize he's got 20 points and 9 rebounds. Game was stopped to acknowledge is 1,000th point as a HS player.

Seems like an ideal player with our system. Just does work without demanding the ball or needing to be the focus of the team. As good as he is, you can tell his teammates appreciate his abilities without deferring to him.

Great writeup 82, thanks!

Thanks 82, good insight

RE: Recruit Updates - jumpinmullet - 12-29-2015 01:00 PM

I like Elmore a lot but I have serious doubts about him fitting into the system on defense. He does block a few shots but he is not real athletic or physical. You can teach a guy to play defense but teaching a player to score is much harder and at the end of the day great offense beats great defense in basketball. I would give him a plus player at this level.

RE: Recruit Updates - 82hawk - 01-26-2016 07:43 AM

Matt Elmore scores a career high 40 points with 23 rebounds last night. He was 17-19 from the FT line, making 7-8 in the final quarter.

He's averaging 24.9 ppg and 16.1 rebs.

Can't wait to get this kid on campus.
