2015 Recruiting Class Discussion - NCeagle - 01-26-2015 10:43 AM

So how is everybody's 2015 football recruiting class shaping up so far? Any really big gets/disappointments? Is it lacking in a particular area? Figure we can get some chit chat going, and then this can just turn into the NSD thread when it gets here in a couple weeks.

Yahoo recruiting has us ranked second in The Belt (overall recruiting class), behind stAte. . .

ULM is up to #80. This is by far the best class we have had under Berry and probably the best ever. Already signed and enrolled Daniel Fitzwater, I highly recruited QB and if we hang on to what we have will be our first really strong class in a while. Still need to grab a couple May graduate JUCO linemen.

Copiah-Lincoln QB Daniel Fitzwater (6-6, 230) (May)- The sophomore helped lead the Wolfpack to an 8-3 record by throwing for 3,080 yards with 22 touchdowns and seven interceptions while completing 62% of his passes. Fitzwater has offers from plenty of schools including Arkansas State, Georgia State, Louisiana-Monroe, Rutgers, South Alabama, Texas State, Troy, Western Kentucky and Louisiana-Lafayette. He will have three years to play two starting this fall.

looks like he went to Calvary Baptist. Wow 6'6 hes a big boy!

Things are starting to shape up for Troy. We've flipped five recruits from other schools just this week from Arkansas State, South Alabama, Western Kentucky, and Georgia State.

We were last in the SBC on all major recruiting sites last season and should finish right in the middle this recruiting season. With better talent and better coaches we should be more competitive in years to come.

We also stole North Texas' prized recruit who was their top player on their board, Sam Miller.

I remember some discussion of USA having the first 4 star commit in SB history, a local kid. Is he still committed? Didn't see him on 247, but maybe he is for 2016 or something. Just curious.

the rating sites probably dropped him to a 3 star after he committed. lol

according to 247/sport, the Sun Belt is overall doing better in recruiting this year, than in years past, maybe even ever! hope everyone can finish strong.

I think Dexter Carter Jr. is a big get for GS. We need wide receivers and this kid has some skills and some big offers as well.

RE: 2015 Recruiting Class Discussion - Tuscon - 01-26-2015 11:02 AM

Anyone who took UAB guys are going to be a little weird this year as the recruiting sites aren't taking them into account in the rankings. We took 6 of them and none will show up.

I'm pretty happy with our recruiting class so far. I wish we didn't have to make hard decisions based on UAB kids counting towards the 25 though. It sucks for a lot of reasons, but mainly because kids are missing out on scholarships at both the HS level and the transfers from UAB.

Troy had one in 2006 and one in 2007. The commit from South Alabama is not listed as a four star on any of the four major recruiting sites; rivals, scout, 247, and ESPN. The SBC has a lot of recruits just as good as the kid from South Alabama, in my opinion.

RE: 2015 Recruiting Class Discussion - chiefsfan - 01-26-2015 11:05 AM

We punished a commit for visiting Troy by making him commit to the Trojans. Down to 27 now. That should be a lesson to convince future recruits never to visit a conference member on our watch...you could end up playing for Troy!

Actually, I think the official number is 25 because we already know who our grayshirt candidates are. They'll either grayshirt, or get a scholarship depending on whether we hold onto everyone else.

Agree with this. Everyone's average is higher than last year. App is going hard after two OL (against MTSU and FAU), one DL (vs. Colorado St), and one tall WR (vs. ODU).

This class addresses depth needs with 4 Jucos and getting some solid players overall.

I know that's half sarcasm, but I'll entertain you. The kid is from Montgomery, 40 miles north of Troy and over 500 miles from Jonesboro. Now that Troy has a much more stable situation and a much more promising coaching staff, he'd rather stay home.

I guess South punished LB Doug Salter for visiting Troy too, right? At the end of the day, playing for Troy may not be such a bad thing. Talent is improving, and the coaching staff is great.

Yep, he's still committed...

RE: 2015 Recruiting Class Discussion - Saint3333 - 01-26-2015 11:16 AM

Chief is being funny, but there are a couple of Ark St. fans that believe they never lose recruiting battles with conference peers. Which is also pretty funny.

RE: 2015 Recruiting Class Discussion - APPrising - 01-26-2015 11:19 AM

We don't have any 4 stars but have a solid QB, K, WR and LB recruited as well as a couple of JUCO's at WR, LB, and DE. Also have a 2 star CB who's stock has been increasing. Due to our cupboard being pretty full, I'd imagine everyone in this class will be redshirted with the exception of the JUCO's and the kicker. There are several P5's showing interest in one of our 3 star WR/CB commits that we aren't sure if we will be able to hold onto, so may not redshirt him if he comes to keep him happy. Also, we just hired MTSU's recruiting coordinator/WR's coach who's outrecruited us on some guys in the past, so we're hoping that pays off on the recruiting trail going forward.

Maybe our new WR coach from MTSU recruited that OL and can get him to lean our way.

RE: 2015 Recruiting Class Discussion - TrojanNation - 01-26-2015 11:25 AM

TROY had a couple kids flip to South after Blakeney announced his retirement. If we could get them back (not holding to much hope at this point) I would be very happy. Also, waiting for NSD for one of the top RBs in the state to announce. He just got an offer from Colorado St - so as long he doesn't want to go of that far I think we have a pretty good shot at him.

RE: 2015 Recruiting Class Discussion - NCeagle - 01-26-2015 11:32 AM

I'm happy with ours so far. We had two big commitments this weekend that had some offers from some pretty good P5 teams (I thought we didn't compete against those guys?) lol
