What would you say are odds of adding a 12th by June 1 of this year? - GaSoEagle - 01-02-2015 10:03 PM

It seems the drive toward adding a 12th has sort of stalled out. Our AD here at Ga. Southern in an interview last week said there is growing consensus among the SB leaders to stick at 11 unless a "home run" can be hit with a 12th add.

Has anyone heard anything from any SB leader (Benson or any of the other members) about any add this Spring?

I'd say 5% odds. It's more likely you lose a school than gain one in my opinion.

Seriously doubt we'd make an add by then. Though I'd gladly be wrong for a "home run" pick up. At some point, would love to be at 12, would love to have a CG.

2% chance. There is noone out there worth adding right now.

Unless James Madison wakes up, nothing will happen. The most likely scenario is we wait out what CUSA wants to do first. If they took an All Sports Member that's not irreplaceable...we might be better off sticking at 10 because scheduling is so much easier.

10 is the key. Boot Idaho to the Big Sky, then round robin scheduling.

I think the NCAA Meetings voting on the Championship Game Deregulation will decide if another round of expansion occurs. If it goes to 10 teams, no reason to expand.

You'll never see 9 league games get support. We truthfully need the 4th OOC game to help ourselves get a boost over the other G5 leagues. We're already going to have a champ looked down upon because of the league. (See Marshall this year in CUSA) If we went to 9 league games, some teams would have to cut their Money games as a result, and we need those games and wins if we ever plan on cracking the access bowl.

Booting Idaho is the right call however.

I think we need to have at least 10 if we ever hope to have that 5th bowl tie in. NMSU all sports makes the most since because we don't have to call anyone up and if reports are correct they want to be in for Olympics. Failing that I feel if we drop both NMSU and Idaho we must invite a 10th member for stability.

Whether the SBC adds or not has more to do with what other conferences do first.

When is the Idaho membership subject to revocation?

If deregulation doesn't occur. Kick Idaho to the curb, add Mo State and UMass football-only to balance out the divisions. One long road trip on both sides of the conference. Balances them out.

Idaho and NMSU are contracted through 2017 and have to receive two year notice of non-renewal.

I have not heard of any school advocating a nine game slate other than Georgia Southern. I know the Eagles have had some scheduling issues but there are two kinds of schools who can generally get home and home deals easily. Those the opponent thinks they can sweep and those who can bolster strength of schedule. I'd expect things will be easier after this year.

So after next football season (2015) the SB can give NMSU and Idaho the 2 year notice that 2017 will be their last years, right?

According to some NMSU posters, they've already received notice . . . But I can neither confirm nor deny the validity of that claim . .

So what is the plan then -- drop to 9 fb playing schools so everyone can play everyone or add 1-3 more schools?

Correct. Its a 4 year deal that must be renewed every two years. Meaning at the end of next season, we'll have to make a decision about whether or not to dump Idaho and NMSU after 2017, or extend them until 2019.

I really would like to see the Sun Belt notify Idaho and NMSU. Offer Missouri St, EKY and JMU or Liberty. That would be nice to actually see a regional football conference. Allows these schools to move up to FBS and start the process. It will be interesting with NMSU, IDAHO, MASS, BYU and ARMY being Independents.

RE: What would you say are odds of adding a 12th by June 1 of this year? - TheRevSWT - 01-04-2015 04:58 PM

There's no way EKU or Missouri State will accept an invite for a future year. It just makes absolutely no sense for them.

And by that virtue, we aren't going to tell Idaho & NMSU that they need to leave until we have their replacement members in place.

So the notion of wanting to give Idaho & NMSU notice, while EKU & Missouri State accept offers for when they are ready (in 2 years or so) absolutely will NOT happen.

Granted, I know you said what you would like to see, not necessarily what you think will happen... So I see a distinct difference in what you're saying. I'm just saying I think you will be disappointed by it.
