Quote:On Nov. 1, Maryland football players refused to shake hands with Penn State players during the pregame coin toss in State College, Pa. after a skirmish during warm-ups. The Terps' Stefon Diggs was suspended one game, Maryland coach Randy Edsall was reprimanded by the Big Ten and the school was fined $10,000 by the conference.

Well, I guess Enos and CMU better get ready to pony up! 04-chairshot 03-lmfao

"Everybody has their beliefs," Fleck said. "I do know this: It's a man's game. You might not respect your opponent. I was taught a long time ago by Joe Novak, Jerry Kill, Mike Nolan, Dennis Erickson to be classy. Be you, but be classy. They didn't shake our hands. That's OK. I just know this: Our players are always going to respect the game. You always have respect for your opponents, but respect the game."

Coach Fleck is 33 years old, but quotes like that make him seem wise beyond his years. This guy is and will continue to be a very successful head coach. Good for the captains of our team for handling the situation with class.

As for the CMU players and staff, I'm sure the league will reprimand them in some way.

Like Rawls was reprimanded by Enos and the judicial system for stealing an old woman's purse and using her credit card? CMU is not going to do anything about this. They could care less and will probably say, "It's all a part of the rivalry. "

I'm pleased to see Fleck's quote. Rivals or not, I guess I'm more traditional/old school in that I want to see hands shaken before and after the game. It's a good example for younger kids watching the game.

I saw Maryland do this stunt (of which CMU was obviously trying to emulate) and wanted PSU to win the game based on that.

Indeed, I'll take the guy with 'silly' boat imagery and youtube dances over the guy willing to reinstate Rawls so quickly and presiding over captains not willing to engage in sportsmanship.

Very well said, Motown. When Maryland did that, I was afraid we'd begin seeing that more often. Didn't expect our rivalry would be the next time it would happen, though.

Maryland coach Randy Edsall said after that game that he did not know his captains were going to do that - to his credit, he strongly criticized his captains after the game and acknowledged their actions reflected negatively on their school.

Either Enos didn't know his captains were going to do this (which would be embarrassing after what happened recently with Maryland), or he knew and didn't have a problem with it (which would be far more embarrassing IMO).
