App State Scheduling Tease - Saint3333 - 10-23-2014 08:47 AM

The admin has leaked a P5 program will be coming to Boone in a future year, should hear something today by noon.

Please don't tease us like this.

Personally guessing it's Wake Forest.
We need home and homes soon with Duke, Virginia, NC State, and ECU.
Not sure all would play in Boone until we can hold more though.

Iowa State? Vanderbilt? Wake Forest?

I also would love to have any in-state home and homes P-5 games we can find. However I think we know better when it comes to a certain lot.

Wake Forest - They are in a bad place and need to gin up support. They would make a trip and save on travel expenses, they also need winnable OOC games.

Duke - They would do it, but not as easily as Wake Forest would.

NC State / UNC - Nope, never (only if NC politicians get involved, see ECU and their fight against these two). The inferiority complex is heavy with these two, going to Boone makes them feel like cheap dates. A loss is by far worst thing ever, a win does little in their minds.

ECU - Although not a P5 school (are better on field than the ACC teams) and they are understanding of our situation to some extent, see NC State/UNC.

Doubt Iowa State, not sure fans would have a lot of interest. Vanderbilt would be a relatively easy bus ride to Boone, but SEC teams would only do a home and home if they need something; which might be a win since they might smell blood of a new FBS team. Still figure it's Wake, but they have avoided us since even as FCS we were almost even in wins against them. Duke is not fearful of us and might very well agree to get an additional FBS win in their minds; again an easy bus trip up the mountain.

NC State signed to play at ODU and at South Alabama next year, at Troy in 2017, with no openings until 2020, but also signed a ton of FBS games a couple of months ago. Not sure they even have room anytime soon.

UNC with their current problems needs some good will, but figure we will be long gone before they agree to visit Boone.

RE: App State Scheduling Tease - ManOnABuffalo - 10-23-2014 09:06 AM

Although not a P5 some rumors of Marshall have been circulating.

RE: App State Scheduling Tease - Saint3333 - 10-23-2014 09:07 AM

I'm going to guess a northern ACC program so if it's a P5 from the south it will exceed my expectations.

RE: App State Scheduling Tease - chiefsfan - 10-23-2014 09:07 AM

Why do I expect this announcement to come out and not be a P5?

The NC State / ODU deal was to get exposure in the fertile tidewater recruiting area. That and ODU being out of state is less risk in their minds.

RE: App State Scheduling Tease - GoApps70 - 10-23-2014 09:23 AM

NC State needs all the fertile recruiting grounds they can get. What is it 1979 since they won
the ACC. Not doing ODU much good this year with just three wins, even with a super QB.

Old news. Didn't the Watauga (sp?) Democrat report App was getting an ACC team in Boone back in July?

Actual team or dates have never been announced though.

RE: App State Scheduling Tease - moehler - 10-23-2014 09:27 AM

got to be Wake, before they dump us, we were their biggest nonconference draw. Official reason was they wanted to start playing more P5 schools to gain national exposure, real reason, we were 6-6 the last 12 games against them. Wakes in bad shape, little support and interest even against rivals such as Carolina, Duke, NC State. Apps largest alumi base is in Greensboro/Wake Forest area, just about a guarantee a sellout, and spark some interest by the Wake fans, atleast for one week. If it is Wake, I could see this being the beginning of a semi-annual, or even annual game. They need us as much as we need them.

My guesses:

1. Wake Forest
2. Duke
3. NC State
4. Vanderbilt
5. Kentucky

Glad it's Wake since we are 88 miles apart. Easy travel for both plus winnable ACC game.
Look forward to seeing it being a continuous home and home.

Nice home game to add to this OOC slate:

09/16 - Akron
10/28 - at UMass
TBA - at Georgia

Should be a senior heavy team with Wake Forest coming to Boone. Minus the UGA game all of these are very winnable OOC games.
