Week 8 Power Rankings - ManOnABuffalo - 10-20-2014 07:08 PM

Week 8 in the books, the Louisiana/Ark State matchup is considered week 9. Should be a bit of a shakeup after some surprising results. Didn't see this started yet.

1. Ark State- Good test on the road at UL
2. Ga Southern- beat up bye in the parking lot for thinking about calling the Eagles weak.
3. Louisiana - seems like things are finally starting to come together for them, big test at ASU.
4. ULM - Had a bye, cooked them gumbo...big game against TxState this week.
5. TXST- Bad showing against a resurgent UL team.
6 USA- Barely survived GaState at home.
7. App State- Looks like they may have found an identity as a running team until someone can stop it, GaState on Nov 1st may not.
8. Troy- Blown out at home by an App team looking for an identity (they may have found one)
9. Idaho - Got the home win against NMSU, good way to head to a bye.
10. NMSU- Started the season pretty well but things are falling apart pretty fast.
11. GaState- Still looking for a conference win in year two, and keep coming up short.

RE: Week 8 Power Rankings - GSU Eagles - 10-20-2014 07:22 PM

1. Ga Southern- Best QB and RB makes Ga Southern #1.
2. ULL - Ole Miss and Boise losses looking better. Cajuns take the Red Wolves.
3. Ark St - Must win game on the road.

GAP

4. ULM
5. USA
6 Tx St
7. App State
8. Idaho
9. Troy
10. NMSU
11. GaSt - Can't move them up until they get a FBS win.

1a. A-State
1b. UL
1c. GaSo
4. USA
5a. ULM
5b. TxST
7. Idaho
8. App State
9. Troy
10. GaSt
11. NMSU
This will change next week but until someone beats one of the two co-champs they are still no one in my book. My opinion is solely based on conference play since not of the conference teams will get an access bowl bid conference is all that matters.

RE: Week 8 Power Rankings - EigenEagle - 10-21-2014 10:24 AM

1. StAte
2. Georgia Southern
3. South Alabama
4. ULM
5. Idaho
6. Troy
7. NMSU
8. Georgia State

Teams I don't really know what to do with... Texas State, UL, and App

Yes I include App because they improved dramatically over last season and I think it's possible they do it again.

RE: Week 8 Power Rankings - TheRevSWT - 10-21-2014 10:58 AM

This week is really a must win for Texas State.

If we win this game, I think we can hit 8 wins.

If we lose, I'll be impressed with 5.

Do you mean "dramatically improved over last WEEK"? Because we certainly are not improved over last season.

Let me try to help you UL number one, TxSt number five because you can see UL is as good as the billing so that makes TxSt not as bad as they looked and you SoCon loyalty to App State you can keep that but I think that are between Troy and NMSU

I consider us much stronger now than last year. Taylor Lamb has now started after red shirting last year and pretty much proven himself, plus has shown to be a good runner when needed, which we need in a QB to keep the defenses honest.
Yes we lost a ton of receivers that are now playing in the NFL, but Meadors just had his red shirt pulled off and in two games has shown to be a really good receiver. The right side of our OL are all freshmen and are now showing much progress.
Could go on and on, but definitely we are in a better position, even with a lot more freshmen playing, including on defense.

Yeah we are playing football coaching on the cheap right now, but you say App State needs to be between Troy and NMSU; yet Troy beat NMSU 41-24 a couple of weeks ago and App beat Troy at home Saturday 53-14. So why would you say that?

RE: Week 8 Power Rankings - AstroCajun - 10-22-2014 06:01 AM

I don't know about the rankings but after what I saw last night, I rather Ga Southern win outright than for stAte to claim any "share" of the title with anyone this season.

Would imagine that is up to Louisiana pretty much for the rest of the year.

In some aspects I agree. We seem to have a more mobile QB with a better arm. We have 2 bruising RB's, but other than Liberty, Meadors hasn't done much. He had only 1 reception against Troy, sure there were only 9 total completions.

But when I compare how we finished last year to how we are now, I can't say we are dramatically improved. Yes there is potential, but how do you compare this year's potential to last year's finish?

Really? App is behind Troy? My guess is you missed the game last Saturday.

1-ULL
2-GaSo
3-stAte
4-USA
5-ULM
6-TxSt
7a-App
7b-NMSU
7c-Idaho
7d-Troy
11-GaSt

Since the four teams I have tied for 7th have basically played a round robin with each team winning one game against one of the others, at this point, it just shows the inconsistency of the four. That will clear itself up as they play a few more games within the group. They will all be hard pressed to win against the teams above them. GaSt played well against USA but still hasn't gotten over the hump so in the cellar they stay for another week.

Looking ahead, it's a real shame that GaSo won't face either ULL or stAte this season.

They will face a Senior laden Louisiana squad when they do finally get to play us. stAte should be pretty upperclassmen heavy then as well.

That will be fun because then our QB, RB, RB, and a couple WR's, oh, and our other QB, as well as quite a few guys on defense will be seniors as well.

Let me get this straight. ULL is blown out at home by La Tech, blown out by Boise, squeaked out a last minute win over GaSt and suddenly they are the best team in the conference.

Now that is laughable. You must be one of the few that thinks the poll is based only on the last game.

And ULL and Ark St will not be facing a FCS Ga Souther team, but a fully transitioned one with more depth and talent. Remember, the team you are seeing now is essentially recruited in FCS.

The Ga Southern team right now will probably be one of the weaker ones you will see.
