Actually I can see SMU working it's way out of this pretty quickly considering their recruiting area and money. So a Big 12 future isn't out of the question. IMO, this really hurts UConn's chances to the B1G. They have real no recruiting to offer and, unlike the Big 12, the B1G appears to be slipping a bit on the football side. No time to add a UConn if they were ever inclined.

I used to like the Bottom 10 because it was somewhat tongue in cheek (not so much since they change writers). The best part is when fans of a power school get all indignant that their school is featured in the coveted No. 5 slot.

This feature seems more mean spirited.

UConn was decent only four or five years ago. The bottom seems to completely fallen out of the program.

What has happened to these teams? I know that Tulane has never really been competitive. Tulsa, SMU and UCONN however, heard scratchers.

Tulsa used to be a top team in COnference USA. SMU had a nice rebirth for awhile and UCONN was in a BCS bowl not that long ago. Talk about bad timing for the league. Can these 3 turn it around or are they in the midst of a bad cycle that is going to last for a long time.

Aresco must be surprised as well. Talk about a bad time to crash and burn. Wow.

The UConn FBall team I saw on Sat was just brutal.......and I have watched Tulane for years.

UCONN in the Big East prior to the Pasqualoni hiring disaster:

2004: 8-4
2005: 5-6
2006: 4-8
2007: 9-4
2008: 8-5
2009: 8-5
2010: 8-5

A bad hire can cripple a school. Don't forget that Diaco is still coaching Pasqualoni's recruits. Despite the lack of fertile recruiting grounds in-state, UCONN can get back to being a yearly bowl participant.

On a serious note, I don't think SMU finishes last in the American.

SMU and Tulsa are in tank-mode so no telling where they end up. But they really aren't the worst temas.
U Conn is nowhere near the worst team. Their D was very good. They are a disciplined team.
Plenty of C-USA, Belt, and MACs worse than us, for what it's worth.

Haven't seen UConn yet but considering that their only win was a 19-16 squeaker against Stony Brook I do have to wonder --

Agreed...these teams OOC schedule skew these CBS rankings...yes, they are at the bottom of the American, but they are no worse than the bottom of CUSA/MAC/MWC and most of the Sun Belt. However, not winning much of anything OOC because of the strength of schedule makes their record worse than many of those other conference bottom feeders.

I said I was surprised early on when Tulsa beat Tulane because I figured Tulane was a middle of the pack team and I expected Tulsa to be one of the worst...obviously Tulane took a step back from last year. UConn and SMU should not be this bad, but at least they are holding the torch in basketball, so we can't really crucify them too much.

Probably need to suspend the "P6" push until this blows over 03-wink

You're not wrong, but it's really not a good look to lose to these kinds of teams. Remember the OT affair last year?

What I think is interesting is that there are 3 clear groupings in the CBS rankings.

ECU 19
----------------
UCF 52
Temple 53
Houston 63
Cincy 65
Memphis 76
-----------------
USF 108
Tulane 111
Tulsa 117
Uconn 119
SMU 128

Tier 1 = ECU

Tier 2 = UCF, Temple, Houston, Cincy, and Memphis
Standard deviation for Tier 2 grouping is 9.8

Tier 3 = USF, Tulane, Tulsa, UConn, SMU
Standard deviation for Tier 3 grouping is 7.7

and Memphis plays each of them in coming weeks....
