ESPN doesn't seem to think much of the Sun Belt.

RE: ESPN releases Preseason Conference Football Power Rankings - appsfan - 08-25-2014 07:44 PM

They don't think much of anyone except for the P5...

Well with 2 move ups, the three worst FBS teams (according to some rankings), kind of hard to blame them. The Sun Belt is very top heavy. There are some really great teams at the top, but are a lot of teams with a lot of prove at the bottom.

CUSA and the MAC are probably a little better balanced top to bottom, but neither is really much stronger (if at all) at the top. If not for Marshall, I'd certainly give the duo of Ark State and UL the nod over the top of CUSA.

A reasonable assessment Niner. The Belt has a lot of work to do, no doubt. That'll start this week.

I really don't think Marshall's that good. They don't play anyone decent this year...and its going to keep them out of the access spot as well.

RE: ESPN releases Preseason Conference Football Power Rankings - Bigtom12 - 08-25-2014 08:06 PM

Look last year we were ahead of Cusa and Mac, I honestly think we should of stayed at 9. We should never have added football only schools that are constantly in the bottom 10.

You kind of have that backwards the SBC is probably as strong middle down but CUSA more so at the top...in pure number of schools.

CUSA will have 2 or more 1 to 2 win schools than the SBC at the end of the season. CUSA had 4 schools with 2 or less wins last year and another with 3 and I don't see that changing.

3 through 11 is probably a lot closer in the SBC where in CUSA 1 through 5 is probably a lot closer. In a preseason power ranking a conference with precised better teams at the top will get rated higher. In a "numbers" rating as last year conference rankings....

the conference with less bottom feeders will be ranked higher

I think that's yet to be seen...

I personally think they play at least one "decent" team

Not in the eyes of those who matter they don't.

I think Rice is probably the 2nd best team in CUSA...cant remember if Marshall plays them, but otherwise, ULL, AState, and maybe USA would probably be tougher than almost their entire schedule.

Truthfully, I think WKU might beat them this year, depending where the game is played. That's probably the most consistent of the East teams.

Don't think they are many in FBS think much of the teams they added or GaSt, and why should they at this point. They will come around as you come around, and you will.

Its no long term dig at the App St or GA Southern programs to rate them way down the College FB rankings on their entry into FBS. It takes a while to ramp a program up from FCS to FBS ... even if its a successful transition, the first few years are going to be rough at times.

I personally expect that by 2016/17, one or both of those programs will be rewarding the Sunbelt for promoting them, and by the close of the decade both will have.

As far as how ESPN rates Georgia State, NMSU and Idaho ... well, yeah, those might well be longer term digs at those programs.

Wish North Texas would come back. They were always guaranteed wins

I also believe there is too much guessing in rankings right now. Arkansas state is low due to turnover. They will move up. Also nobody looks at Massey unless it benifits them.

Wouldn't count 66-69 as any difference..ULL is about Marshalls only equal in G5 this year. Arkansas state will be climbing again.decent to good season this year.

RE: ESPN releases Preseason Conference Football Power Rankings - RustonCAT - 08-25-2014 10:06 PM

#2 Massey really short changes Marshall if you believe it!

Right, but they become much more meaningful after the teams play few games.
