Mmmmyeah, I don't see George O'Leary allowing anyone to dump a bucket of icewater on his head. But I'd bet good money he'll send a check to ALS, if he already hasn't.

Nothing is more annoying than people who post an ice bucket challenge video to Facebook, yet don't send an actual check to ALS. These people claim that it still "raises awareness" of ALS. Well, the main purpose of "raising awareness" is to "raise money". So, either scribble out a check after you douse yourself or don't douse yourselves at all.

It's the latest "social change" fad, just like all that Kony 2012 stuff a few years back. Everyone wants to look and feel good about doing something and think that changing a profile pic or posting a video is enough.

Agreed, if everyone who did the challenge donated money the fundraising effort would be insane but regardless it has still been huge for ALS awareness and fundraising. Through this point in 2013 the ALS Foundation had received 2.2 million dollars in donations….This year they have raised 53.2 million dollars and have received donations from over million new donors. So a good portion of the people taking the challenge are actually donating money as well.

I have been involved with ALS Foundation for many years and I am totally overwhelmed by what has happened over the last few months. The amount of money coming in compared to previous years is insane….Lets just hope this money helps us find ways to treat and better manage the disease and maybe even find a cure.

Thanks to everyone who has made generous donations to this cause…It is an absolutely horrible disease that we must find a way to overcome.

I've seen people on Facebook get challenged and they make a video but don't dump the water.....much less give money. They just like the idea of getting attention on Facebook.

Horrible disease that needs to be eliminated. Tim Shaw.....former Titan just announced that he has it. My great uncle died from it as well.

Agreed…One of my grandfathers died of ALS when I was just 2 years old and I have a great boyhood friend who was diagnosed with ALS about a year ago. ECU's former Baseball Coach, Keith Leclair, died from ALS as well. This disease is much more prevalent than most people realize and it is such a monster of a disease. What is does to people is absolutely horrifying.

How would any of you know whether someone donated money or not?
