Talk to me about ribbon scoreboards - CougarRed - 08-21-2014 02:56 PM

As has been previously discussed here and elsewhere, UH hopes to install ribbon scoreboards in the future as an upgrade to the stadium for the 2015 season at the earliest.

I know Tulane just installed ribbon displays at Yulman.

I suspect Temple and USF (NFL stadiums), have ribbon scoreboards, but correct me if I am wrong.

Who else in the conference has ribbon scoreboards? Are they just used for advertising and graphics, or can they be used as actual scoreboards?

Thanks!

A lot of places will stream scores and messages over the ribbon.

UConn installed them between the upper and lower bowls when we added our new 2,044 square ft HD jumbotron last year. They can be used for anything but UConn does pump up graphics and ads (during timeouts etc.).

Lincoln Financial Field has them as well as the Liacouras Center for basketball games. They are mostly used for scrolling and moving messages but I guess you can use them for anything you want to display.

Here’s a link to information about the company who did Temples.

We have them, not on the upper deck though

In FedExForum they have the scoreboard on either end on both sides with mostly ads running through the rest. They'll have graphics and cheers go through during the game.

We have some on the field. They're great to quickly display who made the tackle/rush/catch. But most often it is just another place to advertise.

So East Carolina and UConn to go with Tulane and the NFL stadiums. Thanks!

What about SMU, Tulsa, Memphis (Liberty Bowl), UCF, Cincy and Navy?

Just looking for info on football ribbon displays.

yeah depending on how far they stretch you'll see them show something like the player that just made the catch or rush, but mainly they'll just show the same info on the scoreboard (score, time outs, etc) in game and sponsor info during time outs. Perhaps also something like scores around the NCAA or something, but that's rare.

We've just got a giant jumbotron. With a smaller one in the opposite endzone.

I wish we had one on the upper deck.

UCF doesn't have a separated deck overhang between the first and 2nd level in their stadium so its not a possibility at that location (where most ribbon boards are placed).

Ribbon Boards are great if they show scores and stats instead of ads....most universities will show ads.

CINCINNATI does not have them at Nippert.

SMU does not have ribbon boards at Ford Stadium.

Once that 10k seat deck gets put in, there will be room for a ribbon and then some. In fact I think there might be some SRO space when they do.

The word was that one on the upper deck facade was in the works when they took down the old scoreboard up there and then they installed the ones in each corner on the lower deck. I have not heard anything else about it since that time so I guess that idea was scrapped.

I agree. I love ribbon boards and they make night games for other teams look fantastic, especially on TV. Having those on our upper deck would be awesome.

I'm betting your expansion is like ours...lots of talk. I'll believe it when I see it. The fad on getting larger seems to be slowing down and more focus on areas to make the experience more grand.
