UCF vs Penn State game has the potential to be cancelled... - Insane_Baboon - 08-20-2014 03:24 PM

Due to a volcanic eruption!?

This is ridiculous.

Hmmm, maybe you weren't paying attention but the last time this thing erupted, flights in England were grounded for close to a week. Volcanic ash = very bad for airplanes.

This is anything but ridiculous

Now that is a headline you don't read everyday..

It would either be played stateside or they'd fly into another country and take the train to Ireland (most likely outcome). I doubt it will be canceled.

Train?

You mean train & ferry...right?

You sir, need to consult a map.

Would the universities/teams really extend the travel time to make this happen? Going from a direct flight to a plane, train, and ferry ride throws a helluva wrench in the game week preparations.

Come on, guys... you know you can take the train all the way into England from Europe. Yes, ferry over the last part. I didn't think I had to spell it out for you.

Unless Europe has underwater train tunnels or the Oceans suddenly dry up, there will be no trains going to or from Ireland anytime in the foreseeable future.

The chunnel gets you most of the way.

You didn't exactly say that.

And if air travel is stopped to Ireland then it's likely stopped to most of Europe. Most planes take the northern route that passes over Ireland anyways.

UCF fans...prepare for a bumpy landing:

I am very aware of the Chunnel as I road it back and forth last summer during my three week faction in Europe (thank you USF education). You just can't train into Ireland so the ferry part would be a pretty big logistical challenge in moving players and fans from England to Dublin. It's not a minor consideration less than 14 days out from game day.

How many UCF fans are expected to travel?

RE: UCF vs Penn State game has the potential to be cancelled... - NothingButKnight - 08-20-2014 04:07 PM

Damn, I don't think there is a bye week both teams share, either.

I have 7 plus 7 in a secondary group going. This sucks!

There's still a good chance it won't erupt! This is just something that is a real possibility is all.

Is either team getting credited as the host? If so, just in case something does go down, why not just move the game to the "host's" actual stadium?
