Will Barton on the St Louis loss and Josh Pastner (Warning: Martin article) - TIGERCITY - 07-29-2014 09:58 PM

http://www.espn929.com/johnmartin/Will-Barton-Interview-Highlights/19550112

... On the Saint Louis loss in the NCAA tournament his sophomore season: “To this day, I still think about it. It makes it hard for me to watch college basketball, because all I think about is that game. I thought we had a real shot of going deep if we could've got past that first game. It was so hard, so emotional. I was wanting to win for my team and coaches and for my city, because they deserved it. I felt like I let them down.”

“I watch film of it every year. My first year I watched it. Last year I watched it. I’ll watch again this year. It’s always a motivation for me. I’m always looking for that extra advantage. Anytime I’m feeling real good about myself, I watch it so I can really be disgusted with myself. It takes me to a place i don’t wanna go and it makes me wanna work hard because I never wanna feel that feeling again. It really levels you. It really humbles you. I watch that game every year.”

On the Josh Pastner debate: “How can you really criticize a guy that came in when they thought it was gonna be over? All he did is go to the NCAA tournament every year he’s been there except one. He’s won regular season conference titles, conference tournaments, 20 and 25 games. He’s got (wins) in the (NCAA) tournament. He was playing in one of the best conferences in the NCAA and they were right there at the top. How can you really say he can’t — how can you criticize coaching when he’s bringing big time recruits every year, top classes, and all he does is continue to get to the NCAA tournament. All he does is continue to stay at the top of the conference even though it’s changed. He’s got wins over top 15 teams now. To me, he’s just getting better.”

I always knew Will was going to grow into a mature, thoughtful and intelligent man.

You could see he had the inner drive to make it while he was here, now the maturity has taken over.

Big Kudos to Will in every way. Just a great man with a budding young NBA career.

I have been following Will's career....bought the NBA season pass just to watch Will the Thrill. I got to know exactly when The Trail Blazer coach would bring him into the game.

I can't tell you how much I think that kid (correction, man) is a real life changer. 04-cheers

The experts on our board might mindlessly bash our Coach, but I'll take Will Barton's critique over theirs any day.

Thought-provoking interview and spot-on comments. I have nothing more to add except THANK YOU WILL BARTON!

Will always had the talent to play in the NBA. Add to that his maturing mental game, and I think he's there to stay. Good for him.

Why warn that it's a Martin interview?

Really?

It is nice reading that Will has the maturity to confront disappointment and channel his energies toward improvement.

I love the attitude; kid doesn't take it for granted and obviously knows what he has is a gift. tell me he's not a humble man..

but honestly, when your heads on that way, you're open to the love, and hate.

The funny thing in all this is that even though most seem to be on one side or the other; the side that doesn't like JM is still able to give him credit when he occasionally gets it right. Good luck waiting for the guys on the other side to admit the same thing...and they are the ones that are always complaining about the other side being petty. So typical.

Things have changed, some, like you can't let it go.

Everyone has been complimentary about the work Grant has done, everyone.
