How did you find out about the Stampede? - Hoekjeness - 07-27-2014 02:30 PM

Saw this thread on the NIU board and thought it might be an interesting exercise for us too. Here are some of my favorites from over there:

I was turned on to this website by another user whom I know personally a while back. (word of mouth I guess)

How did you all find out about it? Curious.

"Tad from Kalamazoo" told me about a WMU board back in...2004? He said: "Now, you need to be very careful with this...I could see you becoming addicted to it."

I was looking for pictures of old WMU cheerleaders in SI and a link brought me here.

They have the pony express out there in Cheyenne. Gods country, it is.

I'm a big kayaker and was Googling Amazon for some new paddles and this Row The Boat thing came up, and it eventually led me here.

I love potato chips and tried to get that handle but it was already taken, so I'm using #2 instead. It's a very welcoming forum. Everyone seems to get along and they're really positive about the program. However, I do wish we had a stronger moderator who would squelch the negativity and make banning more common.

I don't really remember. I used to post on the old ESPN comment sections from time to time and I think I came across this place while searching Google for things about the football team.

You think banning and negativity need to be squelched? I would rather try and kill them with kindness, that is how I posted back in the day, just hit the negative ones with how proud I was to be a Bronco, it worked every time. I wish I had kept up with you guys.

I came on here because of the MAC board back in the day. Then stampede formed after the old Scout site imploded and most of the long trem posters came over here. The guys who run the main site are pretty anti rivals and scout and are pretty accommodating.

It would be nice if this was a place to talk WMU sports and recruits who googled themselves could read about our program and see what passionate fans we have.

We might want to do whatever necessary to keep them away from our Denver and Cheyenne alumni chapters, however.

I hear Colorado is a wonderful place. I wish that I could get out of this hole that is the west side of Detroit Metro and live in such a wonderful setting. Factory Detroit is on some dire need of culture, I'm glad I can get away once in a while.

Did you and Enos play a lot of dungeons and dragons?

I've heard that name, didn't he play football at MSU?

Spending your Sunday wrecking a message board by posting in every thread as some attempt at an ironic internet character wins the award for saddest display by a grown man I've seen in sometime. This will really show all those people who would like to talk WMU football without your filter. You must be proud.

I don't understand the vile and nasty attempts at the value judgements. If it were true there was an issue, you surely aren't throwing those kinds of diagnosises and judgements to help, out of concern and caring.

Just mean spirited at best, so I have to ask, why?

Come on Liam, that's no way to treat a new poster. And what's so special about Sunday. Just another day off. You're a government employee. Trust me, the day will come when you'll be asking, "What day is it today?" ........or it could be early stages of Alzheimer's. Either way, the day won't matter.

Detroit is awesome. The new plans for the red wings arena downtown are incredible. They are putting new apartment buildings in old buildings as fast as they can and still can't keep up with demand. On friday at about 6 pm walking around downtown, I couldn't believe all the 20 something couples walking around. It is going to take a while but things are looking up.

New Town is impressive, in ten years that will all be revitalized. Some good will come from the crash.

RE: How did you find out about the Stampede? - Chipdip2 - 07-27-2014 07:34 PM

Between Dave Bing and a fiscally responsible governor I think the Coleman/Kilpatrick mess can be fixed.

People are returning from the burbs and moving into down towns everywhere, even in Kalamazoo.

Detroit is an investment waiting to happen. Property is cheap, the location is good, and there is lots to do in the downtown area. The only thing holding investors back is bureaucratic red tape and crazy high property taxes.

Note to Major: I know you're not a fan of Snyder, who I just labeled as fiscally responsible, but I don't fully blame him for what he did to the pension fund. A lot of the problem had to do with bad investments, a stock market that had tanked, and a legislature that overstepped their boundries. Barring a complete economic crash the state pension fund should remain solvent for decades. I also blame our sorry azz MEA union. They rolled over for too many years, even under Granholm, and put themselves in a position where they had no bargaining power. I've never figured out how we send the MEA a $1000 a year from over 70,000 teachers, and then they still come begging for PAC donations. If they weren't bribing politicians with their near billion dollar war chest than what were they doing with the money? Oh yeah, taking in meetings (drunken party vacations) in Vegas, Orlando, NYC, LA, Frisco, etc, not to mention paying out salaries in excess of $300,000.

This article and the ones attached to it I believe are what I was reading this weekend.
