Just read this over on their site. I would assume this means App. St. would not be allowed to go to the Sun Belt basketball tourney next year-- so 8 spots for 10 teams.

We told you guys this was coming. Largely due to not buying out previous coach's four year contract contract. Administration seemed to have not done it because of the move to FBS and additional money we were spending. Sounds as if will just be for one year because figures seem higher than needed to change the next year. Never happened to us before and am betting it never will happen again. New Coach Fox seems to be signing some good players that should have few academic problems would think also. He is a go getter.

We were skirting this several years ago also in basketball, but our scores have been really pretty good the past 2-3 years.
Can someone verify that teams on NCAA bans are not allowed in Sun Belt tourney?

If they had not raised the requirements the team would have exceeded the NCAA
requirement by 22 points from last year's requirements.

Yeah. Drugs. 1 of them had already been released from the team a few months ago though.

That's right and I have a feeling that's why we just got a one year ban and no loss of scholarships.

We don't have to ban them from the tourney, but if they won the entire thing, we would forfeit our auto bid. So yeah...App State is not eligible.
Not that I thought they would make it anyway. Long way to go in Boone to get up to even SBC Standards in basketball.

I do not think APP ST would have made it to the tourney as one of the top 8 anyway. 2014 RPI-336.

Ours was not much better at 304 so based on last year we probably are projected to not make the tourney either.
I know it is tough for a team to play with no hope of post season play or even going to the conference tourney, but it would seem App has hired a quality coach who will get things going in the right direction. I have said it before but App. has a nice basketball facility (much nicer than ours right now) and there is really no reason App. basketball can't be very successful.

... whatever you say. The articles have also said there were other drugs found. You probably missed that part. (Although that could have very well been the advil in the medicine cabinet)

This is why no one should be throwing stones in this day and age. Almost all FBS football programs have some of this nowadays. Is it good? No But the reality is that players are thrown off teams much more frequently that many believe.

This would have happened even if Capel was bought out last year. It happened due to Buzz's recruiting class four years ago flaming out and Capel's first two years of recruiting players who were questionable academically. The program toughened up academically for the 2012-13 season and the scores show that. The ban will only be one year. No scholarship penalties will be levied. The only other penalty is reduced practice time from 20 hours a week to 16, and that was already done preemptively in 2012.

I hadn't heard about the practice time reduction. That actually explains a lot.

Your math doesn't work ... They only raised the requirements by 10 points from 920 to 930

Just read this. Am surprised but maybe they were correct.
For 2013-14 postseason the cutoff is 900.
For 2014-15 postseason the cutoff is 930.
"Beginning with 2012-13 championships, teams must earn a minimum 900 four-year APR or a 930 average over the most recent two years to be eligible to participate. For 2014-15 championships, teams must earn a 930 four-year average APR or a 940 average over the most recent two years to participate in championships. In 2015-16 and beyond, teams must earn a four-year APR of 930 to compete in championships."
