SBC players in the NFL - Atlanta Trojan - 05-08-2014 01:56 PM

@TroyTrojansFB: Leodis McKelvin (08) & DeMarcus Ware (05) are the highest selected Sun Belt players at No. 11 overall in #NFLDraft http://t.co/9X6kZcJmN3

RE: SBC players in the NFL - asupatch - 05-08-2014 02:16 PM

App currently has, Jason Hunter DE, Corey Lynch S(blocked Michigan field goal), Demetrius McCray CB, Daniel Kilgore G, Travaris Cadet RB, Brian Quick WR(highest ever selection 2nd round 1st pick to RAMS), Deandre Pressley DB. Armanti Edwards will be trying his hand at WR at least one more time this year I assume. Tony Washington WR might get a late round pick this year.

Ware, McElvin and TY Hilton are without a doubt the 3 most known SBC draft picks.

If Demarcus would have been drafted by a decent team, he could have been huge!

So true, imagine what he could have done with real coaching and a better supporting cast.

Only because guys like Charles Tillman and Ike Taylor [and a host of guys from other SBC schools] played before the SBC was formed.

Tillman is a lock for the hall of fame when he hangs it up.

I understand you love for Tillman, Peanut got me a fantasy football title in 2012. But one amazing year and two pro bowl isn't a HOF resume. If that was the case then 3 time pro bowler Dexter Coakley(App Grad) would be in as well, and as an App fan even I know that isn't happening. Steve Atwater played DB with 8 pro bowls and no HOF yet. May want to temper those expectations.

I will freely admit my Peanut bias. He is not only a baller, but is a truly outstanding human being.

If he could string together a few more pro bowl years even close to what he did in 2012 I think he would have a shot. Unfortunately he is battling back from a crappy injury. Great dude by all accounts though.

I believe Troy has the most in the NFL at the moment. That may have changed recently due to our less than stellar last three years.

I think TY's body of work is still too small to make that claim. He had a good year last year but sometimes his numbers were inconsistent from week to week. When I think top receivers, I don't think of him. When I think top pass rushers, I think of Ware.

Osi Umenyora was also from Troy. Though not as touted as Ware, he is/was a top shelf athlete.

All I know is he put about 250 yards up on KC. It gave me nightmares back to when he would play ASU.

The Sun Belt Conference was established in 1976.
It began sponsoring football in 2001.

Both Charles Tillman and Ike Taylor finished at UL in 2003, so they were drafted as part of the Sun Belt.

If you want to talk about pre-SBC players, Bill Bergey of state would have to be considered the best ever. A Hall of Fame linebacker for the Eagles in the 60's/70's, he was a first team pick for the "first fifty year NFL team". Can't get better than that.
