New Bowl In Orlando To Have Sunbelt Ties (begins 2015) - Attackcoog - 04-14-2014 02:24 PM

Orlando will host a third college football bowl game at the Citrus Bowl, sources told the Orlando Sentinel.

The Orlando Sports Foundation, which originally pitched the Cure Bowl as a game that could be played at UCF’s Bright House Networks Stadium and would benefit breast cancer-related charities, will manage the new bowl. It will not be affiliated with the Florida Citrus Sports, which oversees Orlando’s Capital One Bowl and Russell Athletic Bowl.

The game is expected to match teams from the American Athletic Conference, UCF’s current league, and the Sun Belt. It will be played before the Russell Athletic Bowl in December and would not conflict with any potential College Football Playoff or national championship games Orlando hopes to host in the future.

That's cool. Nice to see an AAC opponent. Something besides the MAC or C-USA.

Great news!! A fourth bowl tie in is huge for this conference.

Awesome, I grew up and hour from there and still have a lot of family in the area. All for it.

WOW thats huge for the conference now lets offer a competitive team so the AAC don't avoid the game.

This is great news for the Sun Belt. With 11 teams next year (2 not bowl eligible) 4 slots seems about right.

Once we get up to 11 teams eligible in 2015 (or possibly 12 in 2016) I think we could handle 5 spots but 4 is a definite move in the right direction.

That is big news indeed. 4 guaranteed is a big boost and we rotate for others. We should not have a huge problem with teams being left out anymore.

If this really pans out, that would be quite interesting.

I think there's going to be room for every bowl eligible team starting next year.

Its pretty much gotten NCAA approval. Press conference Wednesday.

I know ASU has been leaking this bowl to fans for a while as the 4th SBC Bowl tie in.

I'm thinking there will be special pink uni's or accessories.

If my math is correct, all these new bowls would have been enough for evey bowl eligible team had they been in place last year. Am I correct?

This must have been the "big news."

RE: New Bowl In Orlando To Have Sunbelt Ties (begins 2014) - GaSoEagle - 04-14-2014 03:41 PM

This really is "big news" for the Sun Belt. Now it is looking like no teams 7-5 will be left out again and we may even get some 6-6 teams into bowls now.

Pretty sure this game will begin in 2015

Now there's less incentive for teams to jump ship. #SBC

Nope. In all likelihood, Troy and WKU would have gone under this format and USA and Texas State would have been left out.

What this does is eliminate the possibility of a 7 win SBC team being left out.

East Carolina Appalachian State could be fun in Orlando. This will give the American 8 ties for a 12 team league that's a lot. Plus secondary deals with the liberty bowl and Independence bowl.

What are all of our secondary tie-ins? Just those two? How exactly do those types of tie-ins work?

If the SEC ACC or Big 12 can't feel their spots then there spot goes to the American. The American would also have to be able to feel their primary bowl contracts before we can send a team to the liberty and independence. Unless an agreement can be worked out.
