Good deal. Hope ya'll have a nice buyout for when the day comes.

Nice. Hope he hangs around for a few years.

Would Hud be the 2nd longest tenured SBC coach behind LB?

I believe so.

That's a long extension. He must be happy with the improvements being made there.
Says a lot.

That's great for the Cajuns. If the buyout is stout then it looks like he'll be around a while.

He'll be gone as soon as Miss St. comes calling.

We've been hearing that for years, but I honestly don't see him going to Mississippi state to be (at best) 5th in the SEC West.

Mississippi State was also supposed to come open each time that Penn State became an open job and yet Mullen is still at MSU.

Ironically, the Cajuns struggles in random SBC games the last few years may have contributed to keeping Hudspeth in Lafayette.

I have to wonder if he was winning 10 per year instead of 7-8 would he not be gone already. Only jobs I have remotely heard his name for were the awful Kentucky job, and a Vandy job that came open in Mid January.

I'm not saying he'd definitely take the job, but whatever the max offer he'd get from LLouisiana is(and I have a feeling they might even over extend themselves to keep Hud) Miss State could double it without thinking twice about it if they decide Hud is their guy.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought his only tie to Miss State was short stop as an assistant. I don't see that as being something that would wed him solely to the idea of Miss State.

You don't know until they play the games but I could see a handful of good paying jobs opening up. Florida, West Virginia, Arkansas, Virginia, Illinois, Georgia Tech, Nebraska, and Michigan could all open. Maybe Florida, Nebraska, or Michigan might turn their nose up at Sun Belt coach but those are also jobs that could open up jobs at lower tier P5 gigs.

Of all those that could open, the two better fits would probably Arkansas and Georgia Tech because if they open the fans will be howling for a scheme change.

If Broadway had stayed healthy, he probably would have gotten an offer he couldn't refuse this last December.

He's not leaving. He has settled in. No chance he leaves.

The man has only won 9 games each season including a bowl victory. I wonder if one more victory each season would make that big of a difference? HUD has constantly turned down perceived upgrades to stay at UL. It seems like he is building a resume to bypass the lower tier P5 gig for a premiere spot. Whatever the reason, I'm glad he is sticking around.

Interesting comment, and while I won't say he wouldn't leave, you may not be far off in your assessment.

I grew up in nearby Crowley and lived in Lafayette for over 20 years so that makes me a homer. Take what I say at face value.

Lafayette is a pretty decent place to live. I saw people from all over the world come through the city (many lived there while employed in the oilfield) and can't say I ever recall a single person say a negative thing about their time in the city. In fact, most hated to be transferred out. There are many positives about the lifestyle there, but, above all else, the local cuisine cannot be beaten.

If the university is serious about keeping Hud, and I hope they are, the kind of salary he'll make will go a very long way in the city.

This is South Louisiana and not Jonesboro. It's a great place to live and the University of Louisiana is only getting bigger and better in all sports. I think Hud wants to build a legacy and not just another temporary paycheck. Mississippi State must be one of the worst jobs in football.

The first time a 1.5 million dollar check is offered he's gone. There's tons of good places to live and no matter where he coaches he's 3 average to below average seasons away from being out of a job. That can happen just as easily at UL-L as the bottom feeder BCS school. So I think he takes the money when it's first offered and along with that comes the chance at a huge pay day if he wins.
