It's not hard to get those results when you have a handful of posters constantly taking every jab possible at LU. Every election is basically won by who can be the most negative. There's some on here that win hands down.

Ever step back and take a look at the mirror and ask yourself why so many take so many jabs? Or are you the type that just assumes there must be something wrong with everyone else?

Pros:
You guys have a bunch of money/facilities and fit the footprint for an East travel partner. TV station

Cons:
There are no playoff appearances in Football. Outside of Curry's time your basketball is suspect. Your online program is well documented to be questioned by many(got that from your own fan on flamefans.com). Your a private school trying to join up with 11 publics. Jerry Sr. the founder of the University is one of the most controversial public figure of the last few decades. Tailgating wont be allowed by visiting teams. Don't bring a good media market(Roanoke is VT territory).

Are you a fit somewhere? Maybe one day with more like minded Schools and when you've accomplished more athletically. Most Sunbelt alums outside of App and GS hadn't even heard of LU before rumors started leaking. Most around the county outside of the southeast think of it as a Devry or Phoenix as you have eerily similar commercials online and on TV. So a bit of image rehab in that department is probably necessary as well.

Most Sun Belt fans had never heard of App until they beat Michigan. Lets not pretend that FBS fans watch FCS football. The majority of them don't.

I would bet the men of Troy know us. Also any team in Alabama probably saw us almost beat Auburn. Also hung tough with LSU. Much more of a household name than a smaller private school with no marquee wins or NC's in major sports. Arkansas State probably had no clue as we are far apart and we never played the Razorbacks in recent history.

Troy might...but Troy grads don't represent the majority of SBC grads. At least I would hope they don't.

Heck, its everywhere. A couple of years ago, UCA's faculty actually voted in a faculty senate meeting to drop the Bears to D2. The Senate had no actual power over the issue, and they were generally laughed at...but they felt they needed to make their opinion known...so they did. And UCA got negative press for it, despite the fact there was no chance they would ever go back to D2.

Many of the JMU posters on the board were around for a previous school president who took us from college to university, and oversaw our move from no football up to FCS. That president had a reputation for making things happen, either through glad-handing or sheer force of will; it didn't matter who didn't like it, if he thought it was best for the school, it happened. For whatever reason, maybe because JMU's simply too big now for that to work, our new president isn't taking the same approach to trying to get us to FBS. Some see that as a failure of leadership, but I'm of the mind that since a university president can be in the position for a decade or more, they must maintain excellent relationships with the faculty, and currently that means a complicated listening and discussion process. If it looks like we're dragging our feet, it might be that because for reasons of internal politics we simply have to, in order for the final decision to have the least chance of spoiling that relationship.

This post has nothing to do with Liberty, but all you JMU lovers are getting exactly what you deserve by clamoring for them to join. JMU is a fine school, but they have the attitude of Alabama fans in football with the trophy case of Ga. State.

Like you said, JMU is a fine school. I don't view them as superior to any other Sun Belt school but I do view them as much more of an asset to the conference than Liberty, EKU, Lamar, etc. Who cares what a bunch of message board posters say...it's about the greater good! JMU will improve that.

To me the following league rivals any G5 conference:

WEST:

- Arkansas State

- Louisiana

- Missouri State

- New Mexico State

- Texas State

- ULM

EAST:

- Appalachian State

- Georgia Southern

- Georgia State

- James Madison

- South Alabama

- Troy

I like this lineup a lot, and think it can far surpass the MAC and CUSA, but I understand the occasional bitterness from some of the ULL folks when you consider over half this possible league was FCS four years ago.

I can as well, but to quote Al Davis "Just win, baby!" If the recent move ups win and hold their own, it really isn't going to matter. You think the Big East was upset when South Florida was ranked #2 only a few short years after they got a team?

Winning talks...tradition walks.

That's sort of where ASU is now. Our administration in place has been very good about pushing their ideas of where we should be both athletically and academically through without much pushback.

I remember the old days though when the idea or concept that we could do anything like this athletically was laughable.

From a JMU perspective, I would welcome this ASAP. I think the SBC has a lot of flavor and some quality programs.

I don't think it matters. If done correctly, an FCS moveup can be almosst immediately competitive. ULL and the rest of us got our butts kicked by Troy for several years following their move to FBS. At stAte, we made bad decisions and took a decade to figure it out after moving back up to FBS.

Put the resources into it, hire the right people and schedule well and most of the recent FCS move ups can be successful.

JMU GS and APP have wins over VT Florida and Michigan and a combined 10 NC's in football. I understand GSU hasn't accomplished much in football yet but Bball is strong and they get a little piece of that ATL market for us. Can't speak to the others as I don't know them too much.

And 4 years ago they went 3-9 in football. They should be the first to tell you how quickly things can turn around. There is hope! 04-cheers
