The President understands how much it's gonna cost to send the Softball team to Louisiana, and isn't sure the resources are there.

A majority of schools would take us (LU) in SBC but not a Super Majority with JMU on the table. A month ago we (LU) were golden and the Ivory Tower types were pleased in Harrisonburg.

But in this case money may talk and book smarts may walk.

That's the way I am reading this as well. JMU doesn't really want SBC, but fan backlash of they stay FCS Would be immense.

If JMU is not involved, Liberty can probably get the 9 votes needed to join, but as long as JMU is on the table, there is little chance that 9 SBC schools would voluntarily take Liberty.

One poster basically said accept us in football only and let us see after 2-3 years if you're good enough for all of our sports. The SB is sometimes referred to as the Slum belt. This post has nothing to do with Liberty, but all you JMU lovers are getting exactly what you deserve by clamoring for them to join. JMU is a fine school, but they have the attitude of Alabama fans in football with the trophy case of Ga. State.

It's really not that JMU is so TERRIBLY WANTED... It's really just illustrating how little some folks want Liberty.

Even though I think JMU would be a fine addition, I'm not in love with having them. But if it's a choice of JMU or Liberty... Well, that's a no brainer to me.

Can you not read? I specifically said the post wasn't about Liberty, but about the attitude of JMU. Every opportunity you get you make a special point to hammer Liberty. We all get it, you're in the camp with Tom, Panama and the crazy poster from Western.

Technically in the camp with 46% of posters on this board that found LU least desirable. 2 to 1 margin over UMASS..3 to 1 margin over EKU, 5 to1 margin over JMU and 12 to 1 margin over Mizz St.

It's astounding really.

JMU 12 8.89%
Missouri State 5 3.70%
Umass 34 25.19%
Liberty* 63 46.67%
EKU 21 15.56%
Total 135 votes 100%

I don't think 135 votes on one thread is a enough data to determine a trend across an entire conference.

hunh. A liberty guy lying. Isn't that grounds for expulsion or something? He said "we have obvious hesitation about joining for all sports, why not let us join for football and show us what you got?" Not exactly see if you're good enough for all our sports.

We clearly DO have some hesitation about joining for all sports, other concerns likely as well. mostly its the geography of the whole situation and having to send the sports other than football and perhaps M/W Bball all over the Country. To that concern, none of the other "possible" conferences is a whole lot easier or better, though.

Point being, easing us in with a ftball only invite might make the logistics and finances easier for our clearly (little c) conservative Admin to swallow. Go from there. If it turns out to be a good fit, then great, we move all in. It's not like there aren't football only AND Non-football schools already in the Belt.

Oh, and you may want to check that Trophy case before you comment further.

I don't know...most of you guys seem to have a general clue how it works. But from some of the comments, I think many of you are still convinced you've got the MAC, CUSA, and the AAC all ready to call you at a moments notice.

Nobody thinks JMU is going to the AAC...one guy keeps saying it COULD happen, but I'm not sure he even believes himself. Few believe the C-USA is likely anytime soon and most have also acknowledged that the MAC appears to be content.

We must be reading different message boards because most posters on the Dukes page are basically saying "Jesus Christ, take the Sun Belt offer already!"

Generally though, its a lot easier to point out the one negative...because he is the one who gets quoted all the time by SBC Fans.

Such as the one guy who made the really idiotic, invite us football only and MAYBE we'll consider joining all sports if you impress us type comment.

Because of the quote feature, I can read that post 12 times...but the people claiming "Take the stupid invite and get us out of the CAA already" get left to the side.

Do tell. What is the "attitude of JMU"?

Have you spoken with Alger? Charlie King or Jeff Bourne perhaps? Or are you making some ill-founded and poorly advised assumptions based on a bunch of bored guys at desk jobs posting on a freaking sports message board?

Really? really?

Fair enough! I guess it pisses me off a little that JMU has a golden opportunity to move to big boy football and it appears to me about half of the posters see the SB as below them when several other schools that would jump at the opportunity. Travel cost and missed class time for student athletes should be considered for sure, but it's not going to be much better in the other conferences you guys would prefer.

I would love to have a much larger sample, but alas this is the largest congregation of sunbelt fans in one spot on the net. BTW liked you last post about stepping back and looking at the issues as opposed to beating the same horse.

It's not hard to get those results when you have a handful of posters constantly taking every jab possible at LU. Every election is basically won by who can be the most negative. There's some on here that win hands down.

RE: Reports out of missouri saying JMU and MSU recieved invite - All Dukes_All Day - 04-10-2014 03:24 PM

I think the faculty has more sway at JMU than other schools who are poised to move up currently. All reports show that the JMU faculty is strongly against any move up in general (let alone the Sun Belt) and I am beginning to think our new President may be too limp di(ked to call them out on it and move the university forward from an athletic standpoint anyway.

Wait, Patch said flat out Liberty didn't have the votes. Others have said there is no way LU gets the votes. So, this can't be right. This is why I say LU is still in it, because I think there is a good chance JMU says no. It's all still open.

And I actually believe Liberty is much closer today than they were because they willingly and totally want to be in the SBC. Still don't get why they would prefer a school that would only take them in a gun to the head situation. I also think it's interesting that LU has the funds to travel tennis to TxSt just fine, but JMU is worried this may really hurt them financially.

Thing with Liberty is we can only go on actions.

We know the Liberty President visited several SBC schools the past couple weeks. One would think that would be unnecessary if Liberty had the 9 votes.

On the other hand, we also know the SBC is at least thinking about Liberty, and my guess is that we would not actually be having reasonable negotiations with Liberty if they still had zero votes like they did this time last year.

My guess is you have a vote tally somewhere in between. Not 9...but close enough to 9 that you stand a chance to sway enough people to get a spot.

I was trying to help you understand the "love fest" for JMU (as you put it). It was a simple mistake on your part... There's not a love fest for JMU, it's just that Liberty is not wanted.
