RE: Scheduling with Liberty in Sun Belt - GE and MTS - 04-08-2014 08:12 PM

Would the Sun Belt have the permanent crossover games between divisions that most, if not all, have? What would the match ups be? I'd assume Liberty would get Idaho since Liberty would be the newest and get the longest road trip.

Talk up an upstart... Cry me a river.

Hate to break it to ya but LU is still in the Big South the last time I checked.

You are correct. It obviously under the assumption that Liberty would be in the Sun Belt.

Read it again. It's 8

RE: Scheduling with Liberty in Sun Belt - GaSoEagle - 04-08-2014 09:44 PM

So 5 division games, play the 2 other division pairs and 1 permanent other division opponent?

5 division games

3 non division games. All using a pod system.

Pod 1 West: Idaho/NMSU
Pod 2 West: ArkSt/TXSt
Pod 3 West: ULL/ULM

Pod 1 East: App/Liberty
Pod 2 East: GS/GSU
Pod 3 East: Troy/USA

Each team plays their 5 divisional opponents, and one opponent from each of the three pods in the other division.

It keeps teams with regular exposure in the states of Georgia, Alabama, Louisiana, and Texas

O.K. got it. Sometimes I need further explanation :)

Nope.
5 division.

Three pairs in the other division. Play one game against one team in each pair.

As I said in the explanation, that means West teams ALWAYS have an Alabama opponent ALWAYS have a Georgia opponent. ALWAYS have one of App and the other eastern, while East teams ALWAYS have a Louisiana based school. ALWAYS have one of Ark/Tex, ALWAYS have one of NMSU/Idaho.

RE: Scheduling with Liberty in Sun Belt - GaSoEagle - 04-08-2014 09:55 PM

Makes good sense to me. I guess getting a partner for App makes this work the easiest instead of a 12th team who is not near App.

That's a good thing, and it most likely cant be avoided. Its much better for the newbies to play each other because it makes their result look better. The NCAA doesn't sit there and judge whether or not they are playing move ups or not when judging the top G5 league.

We don't need scheduling charity.

RE: Scheduling with Liberty in Sun Belt - GaSoEagle - 04-08-2014 10:06 PM

I think South Alabama will find some of the newbies in the eastern division plenty challenging.

You are right...Troy doesn't.

I understand that USA never played an FCS schedule, so you don't respect any FCS teams, but you're going to be surprised when this season rolls around.

When USA did play FCS teams, they've played the absolute scum of the division.

2010 - 3-0 against sub-DI, 4-0 against FCS
Nicholls State (3-7 against DI competition) - won by 18
@ Lamar (2-6 against DI, 1st year startup) - won by 26
@ UC Davis (6-5 against DI) - won by 3
Georgia State (5-4 against DI, 1st year startup) - won by 5

2011 - 2-0 against sub-DI, 4-2 against FCS, 0-2 against FBS
Lamar (3-7 against DI) - won by 22
@ UTSA (1-5 against DI, 1st year startup) - won by 3 in OT
UT-Martin (4-6 against DI) - won by 3
@ Georgia State (1-6 against DI, 2nd year startup) - lost by 7 in OT
Mississippi Valley State (1-10 against DI, historically awful SWAC team) - won by 32
Cal Poly (5-5 against DI) - lost by 31

2012 - 1-0 against FCS, 1-11 against FBS
Nicholls State (0-10 against DI) - won by 6

2013 - 0-1 against FCS, 5-6 against FBS
Southern Utah (7-5 against DI, actually made playoffs!) - lost by 1

So USA has a 9-3 (0.750) record against FCS teams with a combined 38-76 record (0.333) against DI competition. The 9 wins are against FCS teams with a combined 25-60 record (0.294) against DI competition. USA is 0-1 (0.000) all-time against FCS playoff teams, and has a 6-19 (0.240) record against FBS teams.

Since 2010, Georgia Southern has a 36-13 (0.735) record against FCS teams with a combined 288-268 record (0.518) against DI competition. The 36 wins are against FCS teams with a combined 187-225 record (0.454) against DI competition. Since 2010, GS is 10-8 (0.556) against FCS playoff teams, and has a 1-3 (0.250) record against FBS teams.

I'm not going to go through App's numbers. They've slipped a little since their 05-07 run, but they're still going to be up there.

You'll forgive us if we're not bowing at the feet of a new startup with a mediocre record padding with wins against sub-DI teams, fellow startups, and garbage FCS teams.

RE: Scheduling with Liberty in Sun Belt - Saint3333 - 04-09-2014 10:11 AM

Slipped a little last year. But won 7 out of 8 SoCon titles before that and 4-1 vs GSU the last five years.

I love when people say App was great 2005-2007 and that's it. Couldn't be more wrong.

RE: Scheduling with Liberty in Sun Belt - trueeagle98 - 04-09-2014 10:16 AM

apparently Tom thinks GS and App will bend over for the mighty USA. He also can't believe his beloved school might be stuck in the same division with us and the other start-ups (might ruin USA's "RPI" 03-lmfao )

I'm more worried about the App game than USA. If you think GS (and App) won't be competitive for at least a few years, you don't know our programs at all.

I didn't say you were great from 05-07 and that's it. I said you had slipped since your 05-07 run. I don't think that can be debated. It's hard to replicate that level of dominance every year, and first round playoff exits don't help.

App has obviously had a ton of success for a very long time, and I thought I was pretty respectful of that fact.

Oh boy...Whose FCS team is better arguments...we haven't had one of those in a while.

RE: Scheduling with Liberty in Sun Belt - Niner National - 04-09-2014 10:26 AM

Does LU have any issues with playing games on Sundays like BYU?
