Just forget about finding a hotel room in Statesboro.

I think confidence is very high. The entire new coaching staff has mentioned that our WR's are bigger and faster than they have worked with or anticipated and that we are a much better passing team than they thought we'd be at this point.

That is one of the things I've always said about our WR's. They are good, just didn't get utilized often. We actually just signed a JUCO WR today to add to the team.

We're running triple option still. Our OC was shocked that we have good WR's who can catch and make plays. Been trying to say that but no one believed me, our previous staff was just unable to develop a consistent passing attack. OL is responding well to the change, getting stronger and developing the skillset they need to block in this new scheme. Not worried about running backs at all with the transfers and depth we had. We just brought in a JUCO WR at 6'2" 205lbs.....folks are going to see some physical receivers that they probably weren't expecting.

We've also dramatically reduced the amount of contact in practice (ie taking to the ground) which in the past has contributed to quite a few of our injuries (apparently full speed, throwing to the ground in practice makes you more of a man or something like that). That philosophy is one of the reasons App never played against Swope, and now never will with his legal issues unfortunately.

The things I'm hearing make me feel a LOT more confident than I did a couple of months ago.

yeah, not this past season, but the season before that, we made top 10 plays on sportscenter with phenomenal catches.

Eagles are really going all out for this. You find this when you visit their athletic page.

In all fairness chief I really don't think a lot of sunbelt fans understand exactly what they are inheriting with our two programs. ish gets crazy, especially when we play each other.

I'm beginning to sense that the two programs hate one another. Am I on track?

Look at you guys and ULM. Remove the "name" debate and you are probably in the same neighborhood as us.

My comment was one of sarcasm, nothing more. And honestly, while I don't care to lose to anyone, including the Monrovians, they hardly rank at the top of my gotta beat 'em list.

I'd much rather see us curb stomp Tulane and LSU when given the chance. See the difference?

RE: Thursday and Wednesday Sun Belt Games Announced - GoApps70 - 04-01-2014 03:30 PM

We'll see. Big difference between being able to catch passes in practices and
during game conditions. Of course just about any catches may be an improvement.
Am sure your new coach knows what he is doing.

RE: Thursday and Wednesday Sun Belt Games Announced - Eagleditka - 04-01-2014 03:31 PM

The atmosphere in practice is light. Fritz is more of a player coach than Monken was. No tackling except in scrimmages is a new change. Player interviews I've seen, everyone is excited to learn a new offense. The QBs are especially excited about the new offense because of the expanded passing game. We have one challenger to the incumbent in RSFr L.A. Ramsby, giving Ellison a run for his money.

Would be quite humorous to see your predicted sell out vs actual sell out ratio.

Sorry guys we aren't bringing more than 1000 to Statesboro. Our fans travel better to the money games than to conference games, except Ga State and SoBama. On a Thursday night you can expect 500 including any type of band we might send.

Yea but I'm sure everyone expected our guys to have alligator arms even in practice. The OC was honestly shocked at the skill the guys had. He thought we'd have a lot of fundamental work to do there before starting on the offense.

If they only allow 25k in the stadium. And it's great weather and on tv. I think it will happen

Sounds like they are getting away from your basis that fans talked about keeping so much. Hard to think of GaSo as some big offensive passing juggernaut.

If I had to choose one win between App and GT/UGA, I'd take the loss against App and the win against the other in a heartbeat. We play GT this year and UGA next year....after that I don't think we'll get a game with them any time soon. I'd love to take down GT this year, if for nothing but to silence the flexbone crowd.

However, being in a conference for a long time together, and being in the national title picture year in and year out has cause a lot of hostility between our fanbases in the past. If App was terrible consistently they would have faded from our memory kind of like Furman has....cause that used to be a huge rivalry (the first two times we ever played was for the national championship).

The last 2 years, we've been near the bottom of passing in ALL of Division 1. We averaged 10 passes per game or less. We could double our passing production and still be running the ball 80-85% of the time. Not many people realize just how bad it was. I'm shocked guys like Walker stayed on the team.

Fritz says his offense is about 30/70 pass/run

Don't get ahead of yourself. Fritz still runs a Triple Option. We are just passing a LOT in practice right now because it's what needs the most work (Straight from the Cat's mouth).

Called plays in 2013:
Monken: 626 run / 102 pass (85% / 15%)
Fritz: 655 run / 333 pass (66% / 34%)

Yardage in 2013:
Monken: 3,964 run / 1,002 passing (80% / 20%)
Fritz: 3,710 run / 2,598 passing (54% / 46%)

It's a change yes, but I'd honestly expect Fritz to be a tad run heavier than he normally is this season because of our personnel.

yeah, especially against NC State. Depending on how that game goes, I'd be surprised if we threw it more than 15 times that game, as long as the score is close or we have the lead anyway.

Yep, I did the math and if he's planning 70/30 with us.

Monken: 66 plays a game (56 runs / 10 passes)
Fritz: 70 plays a game (50 runs / 20 passes)

That's what I've been asking for. I've been wanting to average 15-20 passes per game with 60% completion.
