It appears that Tyndall may be at Southern Miss for a while. - Funslinger - 03-29-2014 05:32 AM

According to this article, he plans to stay here for a while, unless one of three or four jobs comes along.

Mike White at Louisiana Tech said the same thing. http://www.shreveporttimes.com/article/20140329/SPORTS0203/303290015/Michael-White-happy-La-Tech-not-pursuing-other-jobs

"Who's the better coach, White or Tyndall, we're about to find out..."

Good for both schools.

Pretty refreshing to see a coach just come out and say this versus the usual coach speak.

white would be stupid to leave right now. He has a great group returning and a nice recruiting class joining the program. He has positioned La Tech to give him an opportunity to get a much better job than anything available now.

You have a good one in DT. He's still missed at Middle Tennessee.

wonder what Tyndall's schools he would leave for are?

I'm pretty sure Haase said something similar

Probably Kansas and UNC would be his two.

LSU is top on his list. That is why I hope their current coach does better so they wont need a change.

I wonder if he would turn down 1.2 million from USF?

Coaches are getting smarter about not moving from mid major to mid major or low high major even for a slight pay increase. It isn't worth starting over the program you've built to move from C-USA to the AAC.

USF is a major rebuilding job.

I don't know if I'd call more than doubling my pay "a slight pay increase"

Both coaches will have offers by much better schools than USF with deeper pockets if they continue to win.

USF needs to catch syphillis and die alone.

Yeah, I'm guessing syphillis can play hell with your popularity

In spite of money, how much work would Tyndal have to do to get USF where Southern Miss is now. USF was 12-20 last season with an RPI somewhere around ECU. Why would he leave a team that is a top 40 team to go to that? There are better jobs that pay a little more if he waits another year or two.

Unless he has to pull a fedora -- jump ship to a basketball program at a football school because he sensed that the suck was coming.

You take a job in a conference like the AAC , because your team can get an at large bid to the NCAA. A coach doesn't usually take a job in a conference like the AAC when one is not offered.

Unless your job is Memphis, Uconn, temple or Cinci, you're probably not getting an at-large bid to the ncaa tournament.

SMU with Larry Brown or Houston with Kelvin Sampson will not be turned away. Apparently you haven't noticed the outrage this year with SMU being left out. IMO if a team is in the top 5 of the AAC then more years than not they are probably dancing; which is why Aresco and league AD's have stressed better OOC scheduling from incoming CUSA programs. Another thing to remember is that the AAC is still playing round robin basketball next year.

Whether fair or unfair the perception of coaches in CUSA is their records are a product of playing in a bad conference. That can only be fixed by playing good OOC schedules.
