"Everyone is good.." - BlazerGold09 - 03-06-2014 09:38 AM

A couple days back Pastner (please don't stop reading) had some really interesting things to say on SVP and Russilo... http://espn.go.com/espnradio/play?id=10556918

There is a lot of truth in what he says college basketball is today. There really aren't any dominant teams anymore. You could argue it's because of the one and done trend. I personally think it's a combination of that and the fact there are a lot more good players out there to choose from. The talent level between the 200th ranked team and 1 are not that far a part anymore. The CUSA is a perfect example. We have a 4 way tie for first with teams with 4 losses! I honestly don't think its means this conference is weak. Every team in our conference (even us) can drop 10 3's on any given night. This makes it really hard to consistently win. The top half of our conference is pretty even as far as talent goes. The difference in how these teams have played has come down to coaching and just pure luck. I suppose my point of writing this is to assure myself that we didn't totally blow this year. Our record at this point is a result of a competitive conference and a coach who is still learning the trade.

...All true, but more than anything, unreliable shooting, poor percentages.

It has become a running joke in Memphis about how Pastner keeps saying everyone is good. He said that about every team he has played, even teams like D2 Christian Brothers. so much that it is a joke. He repeats the same thing over and over until it has no meaning. One radio show plays a clip of him saying "everybody's good" almost daily to which the hosts have lots of laughs over.

Bu the way, just because you have 4 tied teams at the top, doesn't mean you have 4 good teams. I think it means the opposite. A good team dominates a conference like CUSA. CUSA has a lot of bad teams and a few teams that are a bit better but not good enough to dominate.

Conferences can be competitive, but still be bad.

The OOC results show how good CUSA is

Good points

Using an objective measurement, we're 13th, behind the MAC.

Frankly, we're terrible.

I think it is better that people are giving it credit for. Not saying it is an elite league. It's just not trash either. I still say we get two bids.

The class of our conference vs the top 50 is:
1-1
1-2
1-2
1-3
1-3
Oddly, UAB and Charlotte both have winning records against the top 50.

On top of that that, these teams vs 51-100 are:
3-2
2-2
0-5
3-4
2-3

They also have a combined 13 losses outside the top 100, including 6 outside the top 200. Most of these teams were also crushed against quality OOC opponents.

The league is not good as a whole. We have some decent teams at the top, and some terrible teams at the bottom. Like MB said, our OOC work speaks for itself. Tournament quality teams should be able to separate themselves in a conference like this.

There will be one team from CUSA in the NCAA tournament, and that team will be gone after the first game.

There will be at least four teams in the NIT, and at least two of those teams will have deep runs.

CUSA will get two or maybe three teams in the NIT. And three is a very longshot.

Probably

RE: "Everyone is good.." - The Answer UAB - 03-06-2014 04:26 PM

Our conference and our team both are not very good this year

"Our team! ...May it always be good; but good or bad, our Team!"
