Furman 16 Ga. Southern 14 - GaSoEagle - 11-02-2013 04:31 PM

Another disappointing game as we now drop to 4-4 overall. We gave up 2 huge pass plays of 70 plus yards and 50 plus yards and that was enough to get us beat. Our offense just is in full struggle mode with McKinnon hurt. Even though he did play in 2nd half today it was very obvious his burst was not there and his ability to cut was limited by his angle injury.

At this point I am about ready to wave the white flag on this season, try to heal up all our injuries and start over again next year.

Defensively we played much better today that last week vs. App but still gave up 2 big plays for TDs. Offensively I just don't think with so many starters out from injury that we are capable to putting up big numbers.

Did you run that ridiculous shotgun wishbone scheme this time?

RE: Furman 16 Ga. Southern 14 - GaSoEagle - 11-02-2013 04:35 PM

No almost all game with QB under center and flexbone. We just aren't that good right now. On offense we are struggling to sustain anything. Also missed 2 field goals today and that was big.

We ran the turn the ball over 3 times and miss two field goals scheme this time.

Guys, have a ton of respect for your program. This has been tough, but its no coincidence that both teams are struggling this year. People staying in FCS getting their last licks in has been tough, but I know both teams will be back. We both red-shirted a ton of players, and have had key injuries with some bench strength issues, and nothing to play for to boot. Where we are going is better than where we are. Doesn't make it any easier to swallow, I know, but better things are coming.

You need a real offensive coordinator.

Way different tone compared to what Georgia Southern fans were saying a few months ago...I feel your pain though, we limped in from IAA in IA and got destroyed our first three seasons, not saying you guys will lose 26 straight but its a lot tougher transition than I think most are prepared for...

RE: Furman 16 Ga. Southern 14 - GaSoEagle - 11-02-2013 09:14 PM

I think many of our fans are learning a lesson in humility this year. This has been a long year so far. We just can't seem to get it going. I can't tell you the last time we were 2-4 in the SoCon after 6 games.

Or no offensive coordinator. Just let Coach Monken call it.

You should hire our kicker as special teams coach next year. He'll show your guys how to kick.

If they lose 26 straight and then turn out like WKU they should be happy. That's a lot better than limping along for years.

How many points did Navy put on the board against ND today.

Georgia Tech sure seems to do pretty well with it and they're in a BCS conference.

The triple option works at every level.

Yea, but it is not working for you NOW. So it may not work so well later. There is no magic bullet in football, every asset has a liability.

RE: Furman 16 Ga. Southern 14 - slycat - 11-03-2013 11:44 AM

The Eagles will be fine. In our last year playing FCS football we had won have straight then lost the rest. Its an awkward year of transition. I will be interested to see how much y'alls recruiting improves now that you are moving to FBS. You were always able to develop players well and have a deep history and tradition to sell. Texas St struggled for the most part at the FCS level but moving up, a new coach, and an upgraded stadium sparked new life into our program.

That same "gimmick" works for Georgia Tech and has given Navy, Army, and Air Force their greatest success in modern football. So yeah you are actually wrong on that one.

True but I think most fans in general and especially WKU fans always view last season as what could have been by the 2nd half collapse and then this season should really be 7 and 2....But yea you are right its has been nice to at least getting back to winning seasons...Just would like to see us take the next step...And I hope its doesn't take 20 years like it has for a few schools to indeed take the next step..
