We're far from the best. Realistically these rankings are pointless until everyone gets into league play.

I know, but it's fun to see what everyone thinks at this point in the season.

There is no way I could even attempt to put together a ranking at this point. UL, ULM, stAte, WKU have obviously been considered the top...but you have to now add in Troy, USA, TXST as potential challengers.

We've got a pretty decent football league as it stands right now.

I still worry that we are all going to beat the tar out of each other and end up with a muddle.

We are solid top to bottom and I think anybody can beat anybody, except maybe GSU.

I agree I could make a case for us running the table and just as easily I could see us winning 3 conference games.

RE: SBC Rankings After Week 3? - ULGrad@Hou - 09-15-2013 11:16 AM

Yep, hard to say at this point. With no obvious dominant team, it's a flip of the coin. I see some good football being played by several teams though and that's good for the conference. Until someone knocks off Ark St, they are number 1. After that, ?

My Updated rankings, again like I said last week, it isn't where any team will end, just a snap shot of what we know, and where teams are at this moment.

1)stAte - Very solid win at home against a good Troy team, starts them off at 1-0 in conference and are now 2-1 overall. Past doesn't dictate anything, but this team hasn't lost a conference game in a very long time, so because they already started this way, they deserve this spot.
2)ULM - good win against Wake, although I am sceptical on how long Browning can sustain this style. He's missed time the past few seasons and throwing 60 times a game is just not sustainable for him to, well, live.
3)Tx State - Still Undefeated, can't knock them off just yet. I think they will finish lower on the list, but need respect.
4)Troy - Tough loss on the road, but played well in a hostile enviroment and still have a winning record.
5)USA - Most surprising win this week against WKU, very impressive. I've said that I like Metheny, and possibly he is coming into his own. Who would have thought USA would be 3 games in and have a 2-1 record, and the loss was against an FCS team.
6)Louisiana - Still don't know where this team is, blew out a team we should have, lost in dissapointing fashion the first 2 weeks. I think they will finish far higher on the list than 6th, but they are a really big unknown right now. Next week will give us a better measurment of where this team is.
7)WKU - I had them #1 last week, and I still think they are a good team, but they ran into a highly motivated USA team. Aside from the turnovers, I have a hard time thinking that WKU is a bad team. Luckily they have Morgan State coming in this week, and I expect them to try to put up a thousand.
8)Ga State - Gonna be a long season for the Panthers, but showed some promise in the first half. Still a long way to go.

1. Louisiana, stAte, ULM
2. Troy
3. USA
4. WKU
5. Texas State
6. Georgia State
I think any of those top three could win it all. If I had to pick a number one then the edge would go to ULM. They have proven on the field they have a good team. ASU and UL are good on paper.

USA might be the surprise team this year. Both WKU (in 2011) and MT (in 2012) lost to a FCS school early in the season and went on to finish 2nd in the conference.

Honestly, you could make arguments for about everyone being #1 right now besides GSU (I need to just copy that and be able to paste win necessary). I'll do my ratings just on this week.

1) astAte - Beat a good Troy team and you have to beat the best to be the best and no one has done that yet.
2) ULM - Would put #1 if had beat WF as bad as we should have. Game shouldn't have even been close. Defense looking much better limiting WF to 15 yards rushing and until the last drive only a couple 1st downs. Offense showed signs of greatness, but overall not there yet. We even had fans wanting to fire Berry after that performance. My have we come a long way, wanting to fire the coach after beating an ACC team. Lol.
3) Cajuns - I don't care who you p,ay, it's hard to score 70 against air.
4) USA - Props for beating WKU. At least this week ahead of Troy.
5) Texas St. - will no more after playing teams who have a decent record.
6) Troy- Still will be tough. Arguably as high as 4th this week.
7) WKU - Really good team, but this week you fall. Can come back.
8) GSU - Actually showed some signs of life.

I don't like these number rankings bc we really don't know anything about most schools

So I'm going 2 categories:

Contenders:
Troy: they might have lost their conference opener but they have some serious firepower!
UL@L: losses to Arkansas and K-state don't look good but 70 points on a decent nicholls st.
ULM: Good win over wake. Is it just me or is ulm not as explosive as last few seasons!
stAte: Qb looks good, Defense is getting turnovers and now has it's first conference win over another contender.

Pretenders:
WKU: wow is all I can say. Petrino was supposed to be your savior! Ugly in losses to tenner and USA.
USA: not there yet but certainly going o make some noise in conference. This is the team I think everyone could get beat by.
Texas st: 2-0 but Sept 28th and @ UL is when I'll re-examine you
Georgia st: no chance

It's not just you. Flashes of firepower, but not there yet. Frustrating.

I think your type of moving around teams from this weekend shows how the possiblities are nearly endless and just how futile rankings are at this point....I don't expect WKU to stay down there....just a tough year to handicap....and betting would be stupid at this point...
