Forbes America's Top College Rankings 2013… - mbrunner - 07-29-2013 06:19 AM

Forbes methodology focuses on the ROI factor.

1)352-University of Idaho
2)376-New Mexico State University
3)427-Georgia State University
4)452-Appalachian State University
5)487-Texas State University at San Marcos
6)506-University of Texas at Arlington

Troy is #639 out of 650! Last place in the SBC!! Looks like my Trojans have some work to do…BIG TIME! We need to strive to keep our academics up-to-par in order to remain a viable option for another potential round of conference realignment …

Forbes methodology is a farce....as is USNWR.....far to subjective....

Idk how they do these rankings, but I feel like I have had a pretty good return on my investment with my education from Troy. I thought Troy was in the "top 100" in Forbes magazine, did someone forget to pay their dues this years??

Forbes ranking has little to do with academic standing..

There are some folks who see a bleacher report piece and automatically move on.

For a large portion of those in the financial and professional world, a Forbes list is the same.

I agree! My ROI from Troy is sick, and wouldn't change it for anything! As far as I'm concerned, Troy is Harvard in MY eyes.

But, I can't say that I've seen TU ranked in Forbes Magazine Top 100. If so, I'd think we may be a Top 100 'Region' Public School??

I feel the same way about Southern. I feel I got a great education and landed a good job out of school. The reason schools get listed so far down the ranks is because there is simply that many good schools these days. Most universities will give you a good education and if you have good work ethic you will do very well in your career. Of course there are always the people that aren't cut out for college, or expect life to be given to them, but that's more a product of their upbringing than the product of the school.

This list is really nothing to get worked up over. Any list that takes "RateMyProfessor.com" as 25% of the criteria can't be taken too seriously (And I don't like how low they ranked us 03-banghead ) Also, Troy wasn't last in the SBC, as I'm pretty sure there are a couple schools not listed.

Yeah, rankings are subjective and aren't good for much than a little chest bumping and back patting here and there.

That said, Appalachian is the only current or future Sun Belt school to land in the Forbes Best Value Colleges for 2013. 03-thumbsup

The only thing meaningful on that list for me is that now I know no way in hell are my kids going out of state for college.

I take ratings like these with a grain of salt, unless my school is highly rated 03-wink

App State may be the # 18 Best Buy in the country, but really do not think these polls
are something anyone should utilize to put a lot of stock into. In Best Buys all the military colleges
are listed the first several places, which makes sense if you are getting a paid for education,
would have to be the best buys.

Top Colleges 2013: Best Value Colleges

Future football-only member University of Idaho is #25 on the best value list.

Good Question! Comparing the list of FBS to Forbes, the Colleges who were left out this year are:
-Arkansas State University
-Marshall University
-San Jose State University
-University of Louisiana at Monroe

The university has to supply Forbes with certain information to participate and be included in their rankings.
