This article was posted several hours ago in another thread.

And it means nothing.

Yeah I saw it here :)

Seems kind of dumb at this point for any program to leave for C-USA. As it stands now, we are a stronger football Conference.

Yea but WKU is a basketball school....We have to go rather than get stuck with teams that could care less about basketball including new members added to SB...No offense, but WKU would like to at least be in a conf. that cares just a little about hoops...Why would WKU not go at this point is a fairer question? As is we are stuck on an island in new SB....New conf. will bring our most hated rivalry back and in addition renew old rivalries with UAB, ODU, UNCC and than maybe start a new one with Marshall which is not far from BG...Also will good for our football recruiting to be back in Florida again..To me is no brainier but its not official yet so lets wait and see for Apollo when it is...When it becomes official, someone check on Apollo as he maybe be passed out in disbelief...

RE: WKU Gone.. - Burn the Horse - 03-26-2013 07:44 PM

Well if that is your argument, why not stay and win the Conference every year?

Because we're not blindly loyal. We know that C-USA would be the best move for our school. Something you are still unable to grasp.

C-USA's basketball will be wayyyyy better than Sun Belt Basketball.

Who says we will have to? WOuld be nice to get at large bid every once in awhile in case we actually do lose in March at some point in a conf. tournament...It will also be refreshing to be in a conf. that cares about basketball with like minded schools you have more in common with...This plus talk of Nashville having conf. tournament will really excite our fans...Not saying it will be like the mid 80's again, but we had some awesome rivalries and games with UAB,ODU, and UNCC...PLus new CUSA would have had 6 top 100 RPI teams this season...

No, your argument doesn't make sense. I'd rather be in a conference that has a chance to put more teams in the NCAA Tournament, rather than the SBC, which is a one-bid league. MTSU had a fantastic season, choked in the SBC Tourney and got extremely lucky to get into the NCAA Tournament. And even then, it was a Play-In game. I don't want WKU put in that situation.

And what? Are you going to ban me for disagreeing with you?

When a company projects it will have a profit of 30 cents per share and analysts project a profit of 32 cents per share, the price of the stock drops when the company announces a profit of 31 cents a share.

They didn't meet the analyst expectation so the price falls even though they did better than their own projection.

That's the situation now.

North Texas left to join other Texas schools and (hopefull Tulsa). FIU left to create a perception bump. FAU left to rejoin FIU. MTSU who had been an advocate of let's ride it out and gain the upper hand had no choice when fans asked why UNT and FIU and not us?

That's the deal today. Everyone wants the perception bump and no one wants to answer the question of why X and not us.

The theory is that a school raises the quality of it's own profile by being in a better conference in that sport. I.e....if CUSA is a far better basketball conference, just by being in that conference, WKU would recruit better, have higher rpi, more packed houses, etc..... Whereas, in a bottom 10 basketball conference, even if you win the conference, you'll almost always be a 15-16 seed in the NCAA.

Many WKU fans feel that had WKU moved to CUSA when Charlotte, ODU, UAB, etc. left the Sun Belt, we would be a far better program than we are now. The SBC has hurt our basketball program over the years.

That's the theory.....

Wait...I don't get it. Spell it out for me, I'm unfamiliar with how perception in sports works.

My theory is WKU is a cork. If the water level is high, WKU is high. If the water level is low WKU is low.

As opposed to schools like Gonzaga, UNLV (Big West edition), Boise, Marshall (MAC edition) who far outstripped the conference competition and became national names.
