The Two Ideal Options - TommyC2 - 02-21-2013 10:47 AM These are my two takes on Conference Realignment. In my opinion, both would be awesome. For lack of better terms, I will call them Old School and New School. Here they are: OLD SCHOOL Big 10, ACC, Big East, Pac 10, Big 8 and Southwest all play true round robins within the conference and do not have Championship Games. SEC, MAC, WAC, Sun Belt and C-USA play Conference Championship Games. Old School Bowl Alliances are the rule (i.e Big 8 to the Orange, SWC to the Cotton, Big 10 v Pac 10 in the Rose, SEC to the Sugar and the Fiesta keeps two open at-large spots) BIG 10 Michigan Ohio St Illinois Northwestern Purdue Indiana Minnesota Wisconsin Michigan State Iowa PAC 10 UCLA Southern California California Stanford Arizona Arizona State Washington Washington State Oregon Oregon State ATLANTIC COAST Maryland North Carolina North Carolina State Virginia Virginia Tech Duke Wake Forest Clemson Florida State Georgia Tech BIG EAST Penn State Miami (FL) West Virginia Pittsburgh Syracuse Boston College Rutgers Temple Connecticut Massachusetts SOUTHEAST East Florida Georgia Kentucky Tennessee Vanderbilt South Carolina West Alabama Auburn Louisiana State Mississippi Mississippi State Arkansas SOUTHWEST Texas Texas A&M Texas Tech Rice Houston Baylor Texas Christian Southern Methodist BIG 8 Nebraska Missouri Oklahoma Oklahoma State Colorado Kansas Kansas State Iowa State CONFERENCE USA North Memphis East Carolina Louisville Cincinnati Tulsa Marshall South Tulane Southern Miss South Florida Central Florida Alabama Birmingham Louisiana Tech WESTERN ATHLETIC Far West Hawaii San Diego State San Jose State Fresno State Boise State Idaho UNLV Nevada Mountain Brigham Young Utah Colorado State Wyoming New Mexico New Mexico State Texas El Paso Utah State MID AMERICAN West Ball State Western Michigan Eastern Michigan Central Michigan Toledo Northern Illinois East Ohio Bowling Green Kent State Miami (OH) Buffalo Akron SUN BELT East Troy South Alabama Western Kentucky Florida Atlantic Florida International Middle Tennessee West North Texas Louisiana Louisiana Monroe Texas State Texas San Antonio Arkansas State INDEPENDENT Navy Army Air Force Notre Dame NEW SCHOOL All teams play 9 game conference schedules. I just think either of these two options would be far superior to the mess that college football is giving us right now. The Old School Model is awesome and treasures the tradition and classic rivalries of college football. The New School model is a nice clean model that does its best to keep all important rivalries intact and provide a format for crowning a true national champion. I will sign off on that right now. :) RE: The Two Ideal Options - Love and Honor - 02-21-2013 02:36 PM I like it, but you forgot UMass, Georgia State, Old Dominion, and UNC-Charlotte. |
