Florida International coach Isiah Thomas always has been confident he would have top recruit Dominique Ferguson eligible for the second semester, and Ferguson indeed completed the requirements that will allow him to join the FIU squad.
Thomas told FoxSports.com's Jeff Goodman that Ferguson will make his college debut Wednesday against Florida A&M. Ranked No. 58 by Scout.com in the class of 2010, Ferguson was among the highest-rated prospects to sign with a mid-major program.
The Panthers got Alex Legion, a transfer from Illinois, eligible last Saturday.
"It's going to take some time, but the most important thing for us is conference play," Thomas told FOXSports.com. "Having those two guys back for league play is going to be huge for us."
A senior who can play either backcourt spot, Legion scored 11 points in his first game. He has been associated with four Division I schools in his career: Michigan, where he signed a letter of intent prior to Tommy Amaker's dismissal; Kentucky, where he landed after gaining a release and played half a season; Illinois, where he was a part-time player in 1 1/2 seasons and now FIU, where he will complete his career this spring.
"If those two guys can adjust quickly and we play as well as we can, we should be right there," Thomas said.
