It's not wrong. It may be a poor dialect, but it's not wrong. "CorpSEman" is ignorance. I've heard people say nukelar in the South many times. I've NEVER heard a moron call a corpsman a corpseman. ...well, until yesterday.
BTW, on Chapelle Show Wu Tang Investments advised their clients to invest in some "nukelar" bombs. ...and no, they weren't making fun of Bush. That was the guy's dialect.

Neal Boortz pronounces "measure" as "mayzure". He has a law degree. Educated Bostonian pronounce "car" "cah". Herman Cain is very well-educated and pronounces "R" "Arah".
Those are dialects and two, totally different things than some dumb*** pronouncing corpsman "corpseman".

"mayzure" sounds like dialect, even "cah" I can see, because it's simply a very soft "R". I don't know how you get Arah out of the letter "R". But with no letters between the "c" and the "l", certainly not a "u", there's really no way to get "nucular" out of it, especially when it ends with "ear". It's like when people say calvary when they mean cavalry.
Being intelligent doesn't mean you pronounce everything correctly by default.

Well, "Calvary" is an actual word. But it means something totally different than cavalry, and numerous times I've heard people get that wrong. Of course, they don't realize they're pronouncing it wrong.

Whether it's a dialect or stupidity isn't the question. The question is... Why does one President's mispronounciation make him stupid and the other is simply wrong?
As to the "no u after the c" comment, maybe you should "axe" someone else. Are people who use that word stupid, or is it a dialect?

GTS's post didn't say it was a dialect issue. It said that a large number of people have pronounced it that way. But it's not an eastern or southern dialect or accent or anything like that. It's just people that refuse to pronounce things correctly. There are a lot of people that say "mute" when they mean "moot". Doesn't make it right.
As dumb as it was, I bet you that Obama won't pronounce it that way anymore. He'll actually learn from the mistake, unlike some presidents.
