SBC Power Ranking - Week 3 - FIUFan - 09-20-2009 09:25 AM

Here are the Sun Belt Conference Power Rankings after week three:

1.) MTSU (+1) - Back-to-Back FBS OCC W's, a rarity for the Belt 04-cheers
2.) UL (-1) - still basking in glow of Big-12 win
3.) Troy (+4) - Beats rival UAB (C-USA) soundly 03-cloud9
4.) FIU (+2) - offense found endzone more times than Rutgers' in 23-15 loss
5.) ASU (-2) - bye
6.) FAU (+2) - may deserve higher, trailed SEC SC 17-16 at half
7.) ULM (-1) - outrushed Ariz. St. in 38-14 loss (never really in it though)
8.) UNT (-4) - never in it at Bama; needs Dodge the Younger desperately.
9.) WKU (-) - still searching for their sea legs.

Not bad but I think the +4 for Troy and the -4 for UNT is a lil out of whack.

Troy looked a bit ugly against UAB, the penalty's were CRAZY. They won, and needed to desperately, but +4 is a bit much

UNT without Riley never had a shot IMHO. Hence a -4 is a bit harsh.

Everything else honestly seems to be in line.

:cheer:

That maybe true. However, the only thing that looked ugly at all were the penalties. 551 yards of offense to UAB's 285. Image what we could have done if three of those drives hadn't been stiffed by penalties. Easily 650+ yards of offense. 15 for 145 yards of penalties and we still beat the hell out of them.

Before Troy, UAB score 44 on Rice and 33 on SMU. Granted those aren't great teams, but holding a high powered UAB offense to 14 points (one TD, a 2PT Conversion, and two field goals) is a great accomplishment, after we handed the game over to them with 145 yards of penalties and an INT.

UAB's QB Joe Webb had 415 yards of offense by himself in the game with Rice, and and 323 yards by himself with the SMU game. Troy held the entire UAB team to 285 yards of total offense, 190 from QB Joe Webb, who threw only 1 INT.

EDIT: Not making excuses, because if the penalties are there next week, we'll lose. ASU is a lot better than UAB.

As far as Troy, really couldn't see putting them behind a winless FIU, plus they won their gudge-match against UAB (props for that). Also, from what I've read, they dominated the game, score should have been much wider plus ref's were a mess.

For UNT, I watched a lot of that game and Bama moved at will. On offense UNT was stuffed often in the first half. To me, when we are playing the elite teams, what happens in the first half means a lot more than what happens in mop-up time. I think your right though, they're going to be a different team when Riley comes back.

I dont know if its exactly fair to drop ASU 4 spots because we had a bye week. Though I do agree with MTSU #1 They deserve it

Yeah, if Troy and FIU had played poorly they definately would not have dropped. But teams playing well will move all else being equal.
Long way to go though.

When we get a win that is comparable, then we'll get re-ranked. Our only win isn't that great.
We just started out too high.

Yeah, Alabama will move at will on any SBC team!
Bama is a powerful team.
