Concerned For the Future of USA - West Is the Best - 04-11-2009 11:18 PM

For the first time in my life I am concerned about the future of our country.

We all make jokes when the opposition is in power.

But for the first time in my life I am actually concerned about the future of our country.

When elected reps will pass legislation (that has zero legal basis) to punish citizens, then I am concerned.

When the same officials pass budgets that we have Zero chance of repayaing, then I am concerned.

When said officals pass almost anything they want with zero chance for proper review, then I am concerned.

When said officals pass legisation to reward those that break our laws, then I am concerned.

We are being lead by people who lack leadership skills. And who enjoy punishing those to whom they disagree. And this is all in the name of a power grab before they lose office in the next election. This is not about what is best for the USA, but forcing down our throats a plan we do not want and can destroy us.

I worry that when the new congress takes office in two years, and Obama is voted out in four years, that the damage will be too great to undo. I don't have many years left to endure this hell, but I worry about how my kids and grandkids will survive in the nightmare that will be theirs to address.

And this says nothing about our lack of leadership on a global basis, and the resulting lack of respect from our allies, when the damage has been done.

I see a modern day Rome, with Nero playing the fiddle, as Rome burns.

Stick a fork in us. We're done. There is going to be no recovery from Obama.

That's the way it looks to me at any rate.

If you have a different expectation, I'd really like to engage in serious dialogue--not the kind of partisan name-calling that goes on too much on here.

I'd really like to hear an explanation of how this could work, because I just don't see it.

What I see resulting from Obama's "stimulus plan" is 20 to 50 million unemployed and 20% to 50% inflation, starting some time between 2011 and 2013, and lasting to 2020 or beyond. What I see resulting from Obama's "energy plan" is importing more oil in 2015 than we do today. I don't see how we get through that. I really don't.

Buyers remorse? It's always been clear to me, from the beginning of the primaries, that he has no allegiance to the USA. I see him standing hands to his side as the pledge of allegiance is being said. That picture said it all, and the MSM covered for him.

We have been heading down the path of increased central control for many years. This administration seems to now be putting the cherry on top of the desert for a sociofascist state. I blame administrations from both gangs for helping lay the groundwork for this coup de grace.

Thankfully....The free market will be here to pick up the pieces when this house of cards collapses. I hope this country survives, maybe not as the USA but as a confederation of independent, free and less controlled entities. I just fear that it will not occur peacefully and we will again suffer lives in the struggle.

RE: Concerned For the Future of USA - Lord Stanley - 04-12-2009 08:18 AM

I was at a conference on Wednesday, and the main speaker was a "futurist".

Pretty interesting, I'd write more if anyone was interested, but one topic, in a half dozen or so parts, stuck in my head. According to this futurist:

** in the next 18 months, advances in battery technology will allow solar panel and wind turbine technology to effectively store all their generated energy.
** these same advances will allow a solar panel in Fairbanks be as effective as collecting and storing needed energy as a solar panel in Scottsdale, but the panel in Scottsdale could generate additional, un-needed at the source energy.
** all this additional energy will be sent back into the grid, reducing if not eliminating the need for any type of power generating systems.
** in the next 36 months, homeowners will quickly be able to take advantage of this technology and will be able to remove themselves from the energy grid. He estimated an initial investment in the technology would pay itself off in three years. Effective energy independence for the average homeowner.

The reason I write this is because this futurist (John Houle) predicted that the manpower, investment and execution of this Homeowner Energy Independence shift will employ more, spend and generate more, and be more important to the growth of the US and the world than all the monies, people and information needed for the duration of Silicon Valley, the Information Age and computers.

This investment and honest economic activity would effectively eliminate any concern over inflation, unemployment or recession.

Yeah, the "Futurist" said the exact same thing about "Nuclear Power Plants" about 30 to 40 years ago too .....

I sure hope the Solar Panel Industry is as strikingly successful at producing Cheap to Free Power like the Nuclear Plants do now ....

OBAMA !!!!!!! "YES WE CAN" (OH NO, OH SH't, They Did !!!!!)

I fully agree...Technology and those in search of profit in the free market are probably our only shot at derailing disaster. Government does NOT produce or innovate. It only consumes, pollutes and stagnates progress.

Maybe you have a memory lapse sickness like CRS, but the first 6 years under Bush weren't NEARLY as bad as his last two. The Republicans lost the 2006 election on one thing alone, people had turned against the Iraqi war. Now it's 2009, where are we? Still in Iraq. During Bush's first 6 years we were attacked, which slammed the stock market, the stock market rebounded and we went to war with two terrorist-supporting nations. We haven't been attack since. Well, yet that is.

I don't know about West, but if you don't remember me bitching about Shrub, then you aren't remembering correctly.

Funny, but most of my complaints with Obama are over taking stuff that I didn't like when Shrub started it, and carrying it to a new level. There was a quote on here the other day, I think it was from PJ O'Rourke, to the effect that Shrub handed Obama the car keys, a bottle of whiskey, and a loaded gun. That pretty much sums up what I see.

That's what happens when you start policy that allows the federal government to take something over. When you start things like NCLB or the Patriot Act, you may have good intentions but you leave the window open for any schmuck who shall get into office to use the policy for their own agenda.

Hmm. I don't see "nucular" waste problem or the possible meltdown of the plants with solar panels. I do question the battery as the wa to go. Much of the material used to make them comes from outside the US.
