FYI, there are currently 2 threads discussing possible expansion in the Mid-American Conference. WKU & MTSU are being prominently mentioned. All speculation, of course. How do WKU, MTSU, and other SunBelt schools feel about this discussion? Is there any interest at WKU/MTSU in moving at this time?

WKU has behind the scenes been talking about getting into a stronger conference for a while. Most schools would, I guess, be foolish not to accept an offer from a conference that would improve their lot. Whether there is specific interest in the MAC, I don't know. I would assume there would be interest on WKU's part.

Can't speak to MTSU's situation.

MTSU would not leave the Sun Belt unless the Sun Belt imploded and couldn't recover.

MTSU has a very strong bond with the Sun Belt and has developed some very intense rivalries with North Texas and looks forward to the new things on the rise with Florida Atlantic and Troy State.

I'm kind of surprised that the MAC would even consider our school right now. I say we would go if you got Troy State to go and if the Sun Belt fell apart.

But no one is suggesting all that will happen.

You might want to check the C-USA bbs. They are reporting that conference officicals and consultants have been on the UNT campus twice recently to inspect facilities. It appears they are under serious consideration for inclusion in C-USA. The rivalry could survive UNT's jumping to C-USA but it would be an OOC game. Troy State has also been mentioned as a possible C-USA member but don't seem to have much support. There are no items I've seen reporting C-USA officials visiting the campus.

After the "UCF experiment" the MAC isn't interested in moving further south than Murfressboro.

Also, some WKU contributors appear to be worried about the stability of the SBC if UNT jumps and think upgrading their football to IA and joining the MAC offers more stability for their athletic programs.

If the MAC does take one, I hope it's WKU. Losing a football member from the SBC at this point would do some serious damage to the conference.

Dexter,

I am very well aware of North Texas' great consideration of those in the CUSA office. But that is one thing that must happen before MTSU would bolt and that is to lose UNT. But that's not to say the Sun Belt couldn't pick up a La Tech or some other school that did not gain CUSA affiliation to fill the void in which the Sun Belt could likely stay afloat.
